Subject: Wing Deck Castor Wheels Can Scuff Turf
When the Wing Decks are not aligned to the tractor, the fixed Castor wheels can scuff
the ground during turning or trimming operations. This misalignment can also accelerate
Castor wear. Each Wing Deck must be aligned to the front drive axle to avoid possible
turf scuffing aftercut appearance. Proper alignment can be achieved by measuring the
distance between 2 points on the Castor mount weldments of each Wing Deck parallel
to 2 adjacent points on the front wheel rim of the tractor.
Align using the following instructions:
1. Place the machine on a level hard surface
remove the key from the ignition switch and
set the Parking Brake.
2. Place a square or straight edge against the
deck weldment that contains the Castor Fork
Assembly. (p/n 104-7529) Do not use the
Caster Fork Assembly itself.
3. Measure from the inset bead of the rim (not
the outer edge of the rim) to the straight
edge at two locations as indicated. Rim and
paint irregularities make the outer edge an
unreliable point of measure. These 2
measurements should be the same within a
tolerance of 1/16” (1.5 mm).
4. If misalignment is detected, loosen the Nut-
Jam (p/n 3220-7) on the rod-end of the Wing
Deck Shock Arm Assembly. (p/n 105-2800 &
105-2801) Adjust Coupler (p/n 105-2805) to
correct, which will freely rotate inside the
shock absorption tube. (1.25” wrench) All
adjustments must be made with the rod-end
of the Shock Arm bolted to the deck.
5. Lift and lower the deck and recheck dimensions for correct alignment. Tighten Nut-
Jam to 114 ft/lbs. (155 Nm) on the Shock Arm Assembly.
