Subject: WING DECK DRIVE BELT JUMPS OUT OF PULLEYS.
The wing deck belt drive system on the Groundsmaster 455-D is designed to allow
flexible operation over ground contours. Impacting large objects, which abruptly stop
blade rotation, may induce slack in the belt and allow it to jump out of the pulleys.
Spindle or idler pulley bearing damage, belt tension adjuster spring damage, pulley
centerline misalignment or a defective wing deck Safety Switch can also contribute to
belt jumping.
If you experience wing belt jumping, a thorough inspection of the Wing Deck should be
performed. Blades should be inspected for signs of impact, and spindle and idler pulley
bearings should be inspected for damage. Check the belt tension adjuster for proper
operation and a visual belt and pulley alignment check should also be performed and
corrected if necessary.
If your inspection fails to identify the cause of the belt jumping, V-Idler Pulley (92-9721)
is available for installation in the Wing Deck Belt Tension Adjuster. The V-Idler Pulley
will provide improved belt tracking on the Wing Deck and reduce chances of belt jump
during operation.
The V-Idler Pulley is available through your local Toro distributor.
