CuttingUnitMaintenance
BladeSafety
Awornordamagedbladeorbedknifecanbreak,and
apiececouldbethrowntowardyouorbystanders,
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Inspectthebladesandbedknivesperiodicallyfor
excessivewearordamage.
Usecarewhencheckingtheblades.Weargloves
andusecautionwhenservicingthem.Only
replaceorbacklapthebladesandbedknives;
neverstraightenorweldthem.
Onmachineswithmultiplecuttingunits,takecare
whenrotatingacuttingunit;itcancausethereels
intheothercuttingunitstorotate.

Units
WARNING
Contactwiththecuttingunitsorothermoving
partscanresultinpersonalinjury.
Keepyourngers,hands,andclothing
awayfromthecuttingunitsorother
movingparts.
Neverattempttoturnthecuttingunitsby
handorfootwhiletheengineisrunning.
Thisprocessisrecommendedforrestoringthesharp
cuttingedgestoreelsandbedkniveswhichare
essentialforgood-qualitygrasscutting.
Thisprocesscanonlydealwithasmallamountof
metalremovaltorestorethecuttingedges.Ifthe
bladeedgesareseriouslywornordamageditwillbe
necessarytoremovethecomponentpartsandhave
themgroundagain.
1.Ensurethatthemowerengineisshutoffand
thattheparkingbrakeisengaged.
2.Adjustthereelstothebedknivestoobtainlight
contact.
3.Applyamedium-gradedetergent-based
carborundumpastetothecuttingedgesofthe
reelswithalong-handledbrush.

Ensurethattheareasurroundingthe
cuttingunitsisclearofpeople.
Keepyourhandsandfeetclearofthe
cuttingunitsduringtheperiodwhen
themowerengineisrunning.
5.Operatethecuttingunitdriveswitchtothe
reverse/backlappositionforaperiodoftime
andlistentothegrindingaction.
6.Operatethecuttingunitdriveswitchtothe
OFFpositionandshutofftheenginewhenthe
grindingactionhasstopped.
7.Thoroughlycleanthebladeedgesandadjust
thebedknivestothereels.
8.Checkthatathinpieceofpapercanbecut
cleanlyatallpointsalongthecuttingedges
whilerotatingthereelsbyhand.
9.Iffurtherbacklappingisnecessaryrepeatsteps
2through8.
10.Thoroughlyremoveandwashoffalltraces
ofthecarborundumpastefromthereelsand
bedknives.
