ServicingthePrimaryAirFilter
Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Replaceifdamaged.Checkthewhole
intakesystemforleaks,damageorloosehoseclamps.
Servicetheprimaryaircleanerlteronlywhenthe
serviceindicator(
Figure48)requiresit.Changingtheair
lterbeforeitisnecessaryonlyincreasesthechanceof
dirtenteringtheenginewhenthelterisremoved.
Important:Besurethecoverisseatedcorrectly
andsealswiththeaircleanerbody.
1.Checkthelterblockageindicator.Iftheindicatoris
red,theairlterneedstobereplaced(Figure47).

air(40psi,cleananddry)tohelpremovelarge
accumulationsofdebrispackedbetweenoutside
ofthelterandthecanister.Avoidusinghigh
pressureairwhichcouldforcedirtthroughthe
lterintotheintaketract.Removethecoverfrom
theaircleanerbody.
Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisfrommigrating
intotheintakewhenthelterisremoved.

Cleaningoftheusedelementisnotrecommended
duetothepossibilityofdamagetotheltermedia.

5.Insertthenewlterbyapplyingpressuretotheouter
rimoftheelementtoseatitinthecanister.Donot
applypressuretotheexiblecenterofthelter.
6.Cleanthedirtejectionportlocatedintheremovable
cover.Removetherubberoutletvalvefromthe
cover,cleanthecavityandreplacetheoutletvalve.
7.Installthecoverorientingtherubberoutletvalvein
adownwardposition—betweenapproximately5:00
to7:00whenviewedfromtheend.
