Speed Control Kit

Groundsmaster 300 series w/power steering

Model No. 30677

Installation Instructions

Note: Right and left side refers to operator’s right or left

side.

Install Extension Spring

1. Disconnect negative (–) battery cable. Remove

steering wheel, parking brake latch rod knob, mount

screws for the steering column tower cover and

remove cover (Fig. 1).

2. Measure 5/” up from the center of the bottom

mount hole in left side of the steering column tower

and /” in. from the rear edge. Center punch and drill

a /” hole (Fig. 2).

3. Insert capscrew through the hole, install a spacer and

spring and locknut.

4. Measure /” rearward of the bend in the brake pedal

and /” down from the top edge. Center punch and

drill a /” hole through pedal (Fig. 2).

5. Insert / x /” cotter pin from left to right and open

the pin ends.

6. Stretch spring down and insert end through the cotter

pin head (Fig. 2). Be sure spring clears other machine

components.

Install Brake Switch

1. If switch isn’t assembled to switch bracket, mount it

with two pan head screws (Fig. 3).

2. Position switch and bracket assembly on top of brake

pedal, push assembly down until switch actuator is

flush with the switch body (actuated) and center punch

the bracket mounting holes (Fig. 3).

3. Drill /” holes for the mount holes. Install an

R–Clamp over the switch wire, insert a thread forming

screw through the clamp and use it and another screw

to mount bracket and switch (Fig. 3).

Non–Tilt Steering Models: Measure and mark 2 / ” (Dimension A) and 3 / ” (Dimension B) back from the right front corner of the tower cover (Fig. 4). 2. Cut sheet metal / ” in at each mark. Bend metal between marks downward (Fig. 4). Remove all sharp edges. 1 3. For brake pedal spring clearance, measure and mark 6 / ” up from lower left corner of the tower cover (Fig. 4). Measure and mark 1 / ” in from left edge of cover and remove material within the marks (Fig. 4). Remove all sharp edges. 4.

Install Clutch And Traction Assembly 3. Assemble external tooth lockwashers onto mounting screws and secure cover to box (Fig. 7). 1. Check right hand side of traction unit for pre–drilled coil mounting holes. Two 15/32” dia. holes are located 1.00 inch from bottom of frame rail on either side of the 7/8” dia. Connect brake switch to wire harness and route harness under front frame member to right front corner of machine. Remove slack.

Adjustments And Performance Checks 2. Remove instrument panel cover and foot rest side plate. Route wire harness along right side of frame. Secure with cable ties. 1. Ensure traction pedal is in neutral position. Turn ignition switch to RUN (DO NOT START ENGINE). Move speed control toggle switch to ON (Fig. 13). 2. Press speed control actuating button (Fig. 13). When button is depressed the clutch plate should pull against the coil. If plate does not move, coil is not energized; check wire connections.

Operating Procedures 5. Turn speed control and ignition to OFF. Manually actuate traction pedal to forward and reverse operation positions. Pedal should operate freely and clutch plate should clear reverse shaft in the reverse pedal position. If ok, proceed to step 7. 1. Sit on seat, operate machine in normal manner. 2. Position traction pedal so machine is operating at desired ground speed. 6. If not, loosen 1/2” lock nut on back of clutch pivot shaft.
