Usehigh-quality,low-ashengineoilthatmeetsor
exceedsthefollowingspecications:
•APIservicecategoryCJ-4orhigher
•ACEAservicecategoryE6
•JASOservicecategoryDH-2
Important:UsingengineoilotherthanAPICJ-4
orhigher,ACEAE6,orJASODH-2maycausethe
dieselparticulateltertoplugorcauseengine
damage.
Usethefollowingengineoilviscositygrade:
•Preferredoil:SAE15W-40(above0°F)
•Alternateoil:SAE10W-30or5W-30(all
temperatures)
ToroPremiumEngineOilisavailablefromyour
AuthorizedT oroDistributorineither15W-40or
10W-30viscositygrades.Seethepartscatalogfor
partnumbers.
CheckingtheEngine-OilLevel
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Theengineisshippedwithoilinthecrankcase;
however,theoillevelmustbecheckedbeforeand
aftertheengineisrststarted.
Important:Checktheengineoildaily.Ifthe
engine-oillevelisabovetheFullmarkonthe
dipstick,theengineoilmaybedilutedwithfuel;
IftheengineoillevelisabovetheFullmark,
changetheengineoil.
Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhenthe
engineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedfortheday.
Ifithasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrainback
downtothesumpforatleast10minutesbefore
checking.IftheoillevelisatorbelowtheAddmark
onthedipstick,addoiltobringtheoilleveltotheFull
mark.Donotoverlltheenginewithoil.
Important:Keeptheengineoillevelbetweenthe
upperandlowerlimitsonthedipstick;theengine
mayfailifyourunitwithtoomuchortoolittleoil.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface.
2.Unlockthehoodlatchesandopenthehood.
3.Removethedipstick,wipeitclean,installthe
dipstickintothetube,andpullitoutagain.
Theoillevelshouldbeinthesaferange(Figure
68).

4.Iftheoilisbelowthesaferange,removethe
llcap(Figure68)andaddoiluntilthelevel
reachestheFullmark.
Important:Donotoverlltheenginewith
oil.
Note:Whenusingdifferentoil,drainalloldoil
fromthecrankcasebeforeaddingnewoil.
5.Installtheoil-llcapanddipstick.
6.Closethehoodandsecureitwiththelatches.

ChangingtheEngineOilandFilter
ServiceInterval:Every250hours
1.Removetheoil-drainplug(Figure69)andlet
theoilowintoadrainpan.Whenalltheoilis
drained,installthedrainplug.
