Subject: Deck gearbox oil seal caps may leak
During manufacturing, cleaning solvent was allowed to enter some of the Gearbox
Assemblies (108-1370) in the serial number ranges listed above. This foreign material
can cause the Sealing Caps (107-2932 & 107-2935) to dislodge and leak gear oil during
the first few hours of operation. If your deck has been operated for more than an hour
without issue, no contamination occurred and no corrective action is required. Your
Gearbox will operate as designed with the use of Dipstick Plug-Filler (107-2936)
originally installed at the factory.
If you have experienced leaking caps, contact your Toro Commercial Products Service
Distributor for assistance in replacement of these caps. Leaking caps cannot be reused
and will be replaced at no charge while covered by normal warranty.
Dipstick/Vent (108-6587) is now available to replace the Dipstick/Plug-Filler (107-2936).
This Dipstick/Vent Assembly will allow any possible trace amounts of solvent in the
housing to purge. This vent will open at 3 psi during normal thermal cycling of this
assembly during operation. Use of this vent will allow leakage of small amounts of gear
oil mist at the vent outlet; the outer surface of the gearbox assembly will be prone to
collect dirt and debris. This accumulation can be wiped away daily with a dry cloth to
maintain a clean appearance.
Dipstick Vent (108-6587) is currently available through your local Toro Commercial
Products Distributor.
