Subject: Deck Discharge Area May Plug with Clippings at Low Heights of Cut.
Some complaints have been fielded of clipping windrowing, clumping and deck plugging
of the discharge area on 2006 models Groundsmaster 3500, 4500 & 4700-D units with
model 30834 27” (68.5 cm) Contour Decks. This condition primarily occurs at
low
height of cut settings at or under 1.5” (38mm) and wet turf.
Due to the nature of the rotary deck design and function, it can become difficult to hide
clippings at low HOC’s. Turf becomes dense and clippings tend to stay on top vs. being
dispersed into the canopy as in higher height of cuts.
The following is a list of practical potential solutions to try if you are attempting to
minimize an undesirable after cut appearance with a ground following rotary mower:
1. Mow when dry.
2. Mow more frequently (less plant material removed per mowing cycle).
3. Try different style blades (low sail, combination, high sail, Atomic).
4. Raise the rear of the cutting unit slightly (increased deck rake).
5. Raise the HOC.
6. Try Mulching Kits (Kit 30836, and do not use high lift blade with Kit!).
Additional help and suggestions regarding this subject are also available through your
local authorized Toro Commercial Products Distributor.
