ServicingtheBushingsin
theCastorArms
Thecastorarmshavebushingspressedintothe
topandbottomofthetubeandaftermanyhours
ofoperation,thebushingswillwear.Tocheckthe
bushings,movethecastorforkbackandforthand
fromsidetoside.Ifthecastorspindleislooseinside
thebushings,thebushingsarewornandmustbe
replaced.
1.Raisethecuttingunitsothatthewheelsare
offoftheoor.Blockthecuttingunitsothatit
cannotaccidentallyfall.
2.Removethetensioningcap,spacer(s),and
thrustwasherfromthetopofthecastorspindle.
3.Pullthecastorspindleoutofthemountingtube.
Allowthethrustwasherandspacer(s)toremain
onthebottomofthespindle.
4.Insertapinpunchintothetoporbottomofthe
mountingtubeanddrivethebushingoutofthe
tube(Figure19).Alsodrivetheotherbushing
outofthetube.Cleantheinsideofthetubes
toremovedirt.

5.Applygreasetotheinsideandoutsideofthe
newbushings.Usingahammerandatplate,
drivethebushingsintothemountingtube.
6.Inspectthecastorspindleforwearandreplace
itifdamaged.
7.Pushthecastorspindlethroughthebushings
andmountingtube.Slidethethrustwasherand
spacer(s)ontothespindle.Installthetensioning
caponthecastorspindletoretainallpartsin
place.

WheelsandBearings
1.Removethelocknutfromtheboltholdingthe
castorwheelassemblybetweenthecastorfork
(Figure20).Graspthecastorwheelandslide
theboltoutoftheforkorpivotarm.

2.Removethebearingfromthewheelhuband
allowthebearingspacertofallout(Figure20).
Removethebearingfromtheoppositesideof
thewheelhub.
3.Checkthebearings,spacer,andinsideofthe
wheelhubforwear.Replaceanydamaged
parts.
4.Toassemblethecastorwheel,pushthebearing
intothewheelhub.Wheninstallingthebearings,
pressontheouterraceofthebearing.
5.Slidethebearingspacerintothewheelhub.
Pushtheotherbearingintotheopenendofthe
wheelhubtocaptivatethebearingspacerinside
thewheelhub.
6.Installthecastorwheelassemblybetweenthe
castorforkandsecureitinplacewiththebolt
andlocknut.
ServicingtheCutting
Blades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.Tearingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthebladesdailyforsharpness,andforany
wearordamage.Sharpenthebladesasnecessary.
Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replaceitimmediately
withagenuineTororeplacementblade.
