EngineSafety
Shutofftheenginebeforecheckingtheoilor
addingoiltothecrankcase.
Donotchangethegovernorspeedoroverspeed
theengine.
ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every400hours
Checktheair-cleanerbodyfordamagethatcould
causeanairleak.Replaceadamagedaircleaner.
Checkthewholeintakesystemforleaks,damage,or
loosehoseclamps.
Servicetheair-cleanerlteronlywhentheservice
indicator(Figure30)requiresit.Changingtheairlter
beforeitisnecessaryonlyincreasesthechanceof
dirtenteringtheenginewhenyouremovethelter.
Important:Besurethatthecoverisseated
correctlyandsealswiththeair-cleanerbody.
1.Releasethelatchsecuringtheair-cleanercover
totheair-cleanerbody(Figure30).

2.Removethecoverfromtheair-cleanerbody.
Beforeremovingthelter,useclearanddry
low-pressureair(276kPaor40psi)tohelp
removelargeaccumulationsofdebrispacked
betweenoutsideofthelterandthecanister.
Avoidusinghigh-pressureair,whichcould
forcedirtthroughthelterintotheintake
tract.
Note:Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebris
frommigratingintotheintakewhenyouremove
thelter.
3.Removeandreplacethelter.
Important:Donotcleantheusedelement
topreventdamagingtheltermedia.Inspect
thenewlterforshippingdamage,checking
thesealingendofthelterandthebody.Do
notuseadamagedelement.Insertthenew
lterbyapplyingpressuretotheouterrim
oftheelementtoseatitinthecanister.Do
notapplypressuretotheexiblecenterof
thelter.
4.Cleanthedirt-ejectionportlocatedinthe
removablecover.
5.Removetherubberoutletvalvefromthecover,
cleanthecavityandreplacetheoutletvalve.
6.Installthecoverorientingtherubberoutletvalve
inadownwardposition—approximatelybetween
the5o’clockto7o’clockpositionswhenviewed
fromtheend.
7.Securethelatch.

Usethefollowingengineoilviscositygrade:
Preferredoil:SAE15W-40(above0°F)
Alternateoil:SAE10W-30or5W-30(all
temperatures)
ToroPremiumEngineOilisavailablefromyour
authorizedTorodistributorineither15W-40or10W-30
viscositygrades.Seethepartscatalogforpart
numbers.

ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Theengineisshippedwithoilinthecrankcase;
however,theoillevelmustbecheckedbeforeand
aftertheengineisrststarted.
Important:Checktheengineoildaily.Ifthe
engine-oillevelisabovetheFullmarkonthe
dipstick,theengineoilmaybedilutedwithfuel;
