ServicingtheBattery
ServiceInterval:Every50hours
Keepthetopofthebatteryclean.Ifyoustorethemachinein
alocationwheretemperaturesareextremelyhigh,thebattery
willrundownmorerapidlythanifthemachineisstoredin
alocationwheretemperaturesarecool.
Keepthetopofthebatterycleanbywashingitperiodically
withabrushdippedinammoniaorbicarbonateofsoda
solution.Flushthetopsurfacewithwateraftercleaningit.
Donotremovethellcapswhilecleaningthebattery.
Thebatterycablesmustbetightontheterminalstoprovide
goodelectricalcontact.
Ifcorrosionoccursattheterminals,disconnectthecables,
negative(-)cablerst,andscrapetheclampsandterminals
separately.Connectthecables,positive(+)cablerst,and
coattheterminalswithpetroleumjelly.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshortagainst
metalmachinecomponents,causingsparks.Sparks
cancausethebatterygassestoexplode,resulting
inpersonalinjury.
•Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,donot
allowthebatteryterminalstotouchanymetal
partsofthemachine.
•Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsofthe
machine.
StoringtheBattery
Ifyoustorethemachineformorethan30days,removethe
batteryandchargeitfully.Eitherstoreitonashelforonthe
machine.Leavethecablesdisconnectedifyoustoreiton
themachine.Storethebatteryinacoolatmospheretoavoid
quickdeteriorationofthechargeinthebattery.Toprevent
thebatteryfromfreezing,ensurethatitisfullycharged.The
specicgravityofafullychargedbatteryis1.265to1.299.
CheckingtheFuses
Ifthemachinestopsorhasotherelectrical-systemissues,
checkthefuses.Graspeachfuseinturnandremovethem1
atatime,checkingtoseeifanyareblown.Ifyouneedto
replaceafuse,alwaysusethesametypeandamperage
ratedfuseasthe1youarereplacing;otherwise,youcould
damagetheelectricalsystem(refertothedecalnexttothe
fusesforadiagramofeachfuseanditsamperage).
