Inspection/Service
Refer to Figure 10-12.
Clean the brush base with sandpaper. Measure the
brush length.
If the length is not as specified in Di-
mensions and Clearances,
replace the starter body
and brush holder.

Overrunning Clutch

age. Do not clean overrunning clutch in liquid
cleaning solutions.
Inspection/Service
Refer to Figure 10-13. Inspect
the pinion and spline teeth for wear and damage.
If
wear or damage exists, replace pinion. Rotate the
pinion clockwise and see
if it turns freely. Replace
the pinion
if it doesn't. Rotate the pinion clockwise to
see
if it locks. Replace the pinion if it doesn't.
