Valve Stem and Valve Guide Clearance:
Refer to Figures
11-4
and
11-5.
Remove carbon
from valve guide and valve stem. Measure the valve
stem outside diameter at
six
positions. Measure the
valve guide inside diameter at three positions. Cal-
culate the clearance.
If
the clearance is not
as
specified in
Dimensions
and
Clearances,
replace
the valve.
If
clearance still exceeds the allowable
limit, replace the valve guide.

Valve Guide Replacement:
CAUTION
Driving out old valve guides can
cause guide and guide
bore
damage.
Do
not
strike guide or guide
bores
wlth driver during
removal.
Refer to Figure
11-6.
Press
out
the used valve guide
using a special valve guide replacing tool. Apply
engine oil to a new valve guide. Install a
stopper
ring
to the valve guide. Press the new valve guide in until
the stopper ring contacts the cylinder head. Ream
the new guide to achieve the specified stem to
guide clearance.
