TrainingOperation
Beforemowingforthersttime,practiceoperating
yourTractorandTransportFrameinalarge,clear,level
area.Start,stop,raiseandlowermowersandmaneuver
themachinewithallmowersdowntodevelopskills
necessarytokeepcontroloftheextremeoutboard
mowerstopreventhittingobstacles.Also,practice
operatingattransportspeedswithmowersintransport
positiontoachievefamiliaritywithalltypesofoperating
conditions.
CAUTION
Maximumrecommendedtransportspeedis20
milesperhour(32km/hr)whereconditions
permit.
MowingOperation
1.Besureallmowersareproperlyadjusted;heightof
cut,bedknifetoreel,allmowersingear.Consult
themoweroperatorsmanualforproperadjustment
procedures.
2.Whenarrivingatareatobemowed,removesafety
strapandlockuppinsandapproachareawith
mowersintransportposition.
3.Pushthecontrolleversdownwardtolower
themowerswithframeinmotiontoeliminate
possibilityofspinningtractordrivewheelsonthe
turfcausingturfdamage.Usethediagramontop
ofcontrolpanelasaguidetoloweringmowers
(
Figure19).

Important:Makesurethatnopersonsare
workingonornearthemowersbeforeraising
orlowering.
4.Itusuallyworksbesttomowtheouterportionof
thearearst,thenworkyourwaytothecenter.
Downshiftthetractorpriortoclimbingasteep
inclinetoeliminatetheneedtodownshifthalfway
upwhichcouldcausetireslippageandturfdamage.
Donotraisethemowersabovehalfwaywhile
operatingonseverehillsidesortractorandframe
stabilitymaybeaffected.Donotacceleratewhen
makingaturnonturfarea.Thiswillcausethetires
todamagetheturf.
5.Varythemowingspeedstomatchtheterrain
conditions.Slowdowninroughterrainconditions
tokeepthemowersfrombouncing.Neverexceed
6milesperhour(9.7km/hr).Travelingtoofast
cancausemechanicaldamagetothemowersand
doesnotsignicantlyincreasetheoverallefciency.
Mowingatfourtosixmilesperhour(6.4to9.7
km/hr)producesthenestturfappearance.
6.Reversethedirectionoftraveleachtimeanareais
mowed.Thisreducesagrainconditionintheturf
wherethegrasstendstogrowinthedirectionof
mowertravel.Occasionallymowingat90degrees
totheusualmowingdirectionwillalsocontribute
toreducingthecondition.
7.Reductionincompactionofthesoilandturfcanbe
achievedbyoccasionallyleavingoneortwoofthe
outboardmowersinthetransportpositionwhile
mowingtheperipheryofthemowingarea.This
offsetsthetractorandmowerwheeltracksfrom
17
