Determining Normal Hydraulic Cylinder Leak-Down
Product: All products with Hydraulic Lift Cylinders April 9, 2009
Important
Hydraulic cylinders used for device, attachment and accessory lifting have normal internal leakage.
This leakage allows hydraulically supported devices, attachments and accessories to drift down at
various rates.
This bulletin differentiates between a warrantable repair and a customer concern.
Situation:
Devices, attachments and accessories that rely solely on hydraulics to remain raised, can and will
slowly drift down over time at various rates.
Correction:
Whenever a machine is parked, stored or left unattended, lower all hydraulically lifted devices,
attachments, and accessories unless a positive mechanical lock is provided and deployed.
Lowering or deploying a mechanical latch relieves the hydraulic load form the system, prevents wear
on system parts, and prevents accidental lowering of the attachments, accessories, or devices.
Warranty:
A non-warrantable complaint occurs when a device, attachment, or accessory drifts down in a few
hours, overnight, or if one unit drifts down slightly faster than another.
A warrantable defect occurs when a standard device, attachment or accessory drifts down as the
traction unit travels between adjacent greens, fields, or fairways.
