ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Inspectthe
air-cleanerelements.
Every50hours—Cleantheair-cleanerelements.Clean
themmorefrequentlyindustyoperatingconditions.
Every200hours/Monthly(whichevercomes
rst)—Replacethepaperair-cleanerelement.Replace
itmorefrequentlyindustyoperatingconditions.
Important:Donotoperatetheenginewithouttheair
lterassembly;extremeenginedamagewilloccur.
1.Stoptheengineandwaitforallmovingpartstostop.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Removethewingnutsthatsecurethecover(
Figure18).

5.Removethenutrestrainingtheairlterassembly.

8.Inspectthefoamandpaperelements,andreplacethem
iftheyaredamagedorexcessivelydirty.
9.Cleanthepaperelementbytappingitgentlytoremove
thedirt.
Note:Nevertrytobrushdirtoffthepaperelement;
brushingforcesthedirtintothebers.Replacethe
elementiftappingitfailstoremovethedirt.
10.Cleanthefoamelementinwarm,soapywaterorina
nonammablesolvent.
Note:Donotusegasolinetocleanthefoamelement
becauseitcouldcreateariskofreorexplosion.
11.Rinseanddrythefoamelementthoroughly.
12.Wipedirtfromthebaseandthecoverwithamoistrag.
Note:Becarefultopreventdirtanddebrisfrom
enteringtheairductleadingtothecarburetor.
13.Installtheair-cleanerelementsandensurethattheyare
properlypositioned.
14.Securetheair-cleanerelementswiththepreviously
removednut.
15.Securelyinstallthecoverwiththepreviouslyremoved
nuts.
