FORM NO. 3313-588 Rev. A MODEL NO. thru & UP OPERATOR'S A MODEL NO. thru & UP MANUAL E28 and 1132 POWER SHIFT SNOW THROWERS SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ‘The 828 and 1132 POWER SHIFT SNOW THROWERS meet or exceed the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute's safety standards for snow throwers; thus, Toto proudly displays the Opal safety seal. To assure maximum safety, optimum performance, and to gain knowledge of the product, thrower read and understand the contents of this manual before the engine is ever started.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS B. Fill fuel tank outdoors, not indoors. NEVER ADD FUEL TO AN ENGINE THAT IS RUNNING OR HOT. Engine must be cool to prevent a potential firs hazard. C. Open doors if engine will be run in the garage because exhaust fumes are dangerous and could possibly be deadly. Do not run engine indoors. D. Wipe up any spilled gasoline, and reinstall gasoline container cap and snow thrower fuel tank cap securely before starting the engine. WHILE OPERATING 10.
A SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 24. Do not touch engine while it is running or soon after it is stopped because the engine will be hot enough to cage a burn. Do not add oil or check oil level in crankcase when engine is running because this could be a potential hazard. 25. Before leaving the operator’s position (behind handles). rotate ignition key to OFF. Remove key from switch if snow thrower will be left unattended. 26. Never operate snow thrower at high transport speeds on slippery surfaces.

BEFORE OPERATING DO NOT USE FUEL ADDITIVES OTHER THAN THOSE MANUFACTURED FOR FUEL STABILIZATION DURING STORAGE (SUCH AS TOR'S PRESERVER OR A SIMILAR PRODUCT). ADDITIVES SHOULD NOT BE USED TO TRY TO ENHANCE THE POWER OR PERFORMANCE OF MACHINE, 1, Clean raga around the fuse tank cap (Fig. 8). STARTING/STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS TO START ENGINE IMPORTANT: Check auger and impeller to assure that both parts are not frozen solid, but free to rotate. Also, make sure discharge chute is not obstructed. 1. Move speed shift contra to N (neutral) and throttle to FAST (Fig. 9). 2. Open fuel shut-off valve below fuel tank (Fig. 11). 3. Move choke to ON choke position (Fig. 10}. 4, Rotate ignition key to ON (Fig. 9}. 5. Depress primer (Fig, 10) five times. 8. Grasp recoil starter handle (Fig.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Figure 15 Note: it wheels do not move in desired direction when power shifting, repeat procedure. Wheels must rotate in forward direction 1o move wheels ahead and rotate rearward to move wheels back. FREE WHEELING OR SELF PROPELLED DRIVE The snow thrower can be free wheeled or engaged for self-propelled operation. When axle pins are through outer axle holes (Fig. 16}, snow thrower free wheals.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 3. Adjust both skids sa there inch between bottom of auger and level surface. When skids are adjusted correctly, tighten flans bolts. Next, check scraper blade that is mounted at bottom of auger housing. Scraper must be parallel with revel surface. if scraper is not parallel, adjust skids again, Do not use step 3 after adjusting skids for hard surfaces. Figure 17 1. MAINTENANCE To prevent accidental starting of the engine while performing maintenance, rotate ignition key to off and removal it from the switch, Next, pewit wire off spark plug and make sure wire does not accidentally touch the plug. DRAINING GASOLINE 1. Close fue! shut-off valve located under engine (Fig. 19). Figure 19 1. Fuel shut-oft naive 3. Fuel line 2. Hose clamp 2. Place a clean drain pan under shutoff naive. 3. Loosen hose clamps securing duet line to valve and slide line off valve (Fig. 19).
MAINTENANCE 1. Pauli wire off spark plug and rake sure wire does not contact plug accidentally. 2. Seen area around oil drain cap. Next, slide oil drain pan below drain extension; then remove oil drain cap. 3. After all oil is drained. reinstall oil drain cap. 4. Position snow thrower on a level surface. Next, fill crankcase with oil: see Silt Crankcase With Oil, page 8. Wipe up any oil that may have spilled. REPLACING AUGER GEAR BOX OIL (Fig.
MAINTENANCE 3. Loosen upper jam nut securing auger/impeller cable to mounting bracket (Fig. 24}, Figure 24 1. Montpelier 3. Mounting bracket cable 4. Jam nut 2. Traction cable 4. Rotate bottom jam nut upward (0 increase belt tension. Note: When adjusting cable, always rotate nut one turn at a time. 5. Tighten upper jam nut against bracket, IMPORTANT: Do not adjust the belt too tight because it may cause the auger/impeller to turn when the auger/impeller is in the disengaged position.
MAINTENANCE REPLACING DRIVE BELTS (Fig. 26) # auger/impeller belt or traction belt become worn, glazed, stretched, oil soaked, or otherwise defective, belt replacement is required. 1. Pull wire off spark plug and make sure it does not contact the plug accidentally. 2. Remove (3) flange head screws holding belt cover in place, and slide belt cover up cables. e 1. idler pulley 4, Half sheave assembly 5. Auger/impeller 2. Flange chad bat cap screws {2) § . MAINTENANCE 2. Check deflection of chain by lifting up on chain with moderate pressure at mid span. There should be deflection. If deflection is not as specified an adjustment is required. {IMPORTANT: Excessive chain tension may cause transmission damage. Note: If gear shift lever is not aligned with Power Shift slot in control panel (Fig. 30, inset), shift rod length must be adjusted as follows: A. Disconnect ball joint from transmission ravel and loosen jam nut. 8.
MAINTENANCE 1. Needle Valve—Close needle valve finger-tight by gently rotating it clockwise. IMPORTANT: Do not close needle valve too tight because valve and seat in carburetor will likely be damaged. 2. valve 1-1/2 turns counterclockwise. 3. ladle Valve—Close die valve finger— tight by gently rotating it clockwise. IMPORTANT: Do not close idle valve too tight because valve and seat in carburetor will likely be damaged. 4, Rotate—open—idle naive 1/4 turn tern counterclockwise. Figure 31 3.
MAINTENANCE REPLACING SPARK PLUG Use & Champion RCJ-8 or Auto lite ARON spark plug. Set air gap at 0.030" {0.76 mm). Since air gap between center and side electrodes of the spark plug increases gradually during normal engine operation, install a new plug after every 25 hours of engine operation. 1. Clean area around spark plug so foreign matter cannot fall into cylinder when plug is removed. 2. Pull wire off spark plug (Fig. 32) and remove plug from cylinder head.
