Therateofsandapplieddependsonthegatesetting
andthegear/rangesetting.Sandvariesinmoisture
andcoarseness(sizeofgrain)whichaffectstherate.
Takethesefactorsintoconsiderationwhendeciding
theamountofsandrequiredfortheapplication.T esta
smallareatodecidethecorrectamount.T oincrease
theapplicationrate,eitheropenthegatetoahigher
scalemarkorshifttheWorkmanvehicletoalower
gear.
Note:Onvehicleswithserialnumbers240000001
andup,thesandapplicationratewilldecreasewhen
youturnthevehicle.Avoidmakingsharpturnswhen
topdressing.
Toensureconsistentapplication,fromgreentogreen,
itishighlyrecommendedtouseatachometerand/or
handthrottletomaintainconstantenginespeedwhile
topdressing.
WARNING
Tippingorrollingthevehicleonahillwill
causeseriousinjury.
Iftheenginestallsoryouloseheadwayona
hill,neverattempttoturnthevehiclearound.
Alwaysbackstraightdownahillinreverse
gear.
Donotbackdowninneutralorwiththeclutch
pressed,usingonlythebrakes.
Neveraddsideboardsorpanelstothetopof
thehoppertoincreasetheloadcapacity.The
additionalweightwillcausetippingorrolling
ofthevehicleandleadtoseriousinjury.
Donotdriveacrossahill:driveupand
downthehill.Avoidturningonahill.Do
notaccelerateordeceleratefast.Asudden
changeinspeedcaninitiateatipover.

TheTopDresser1800isequippedwithaexiblegate
edge(Figure20)andspringreleasemechanismto
reducethechanceofsandchunksorrocksgetting
lodgedduringoperation.Toensurelongbeltlife,sift
orcheckthesandforrockswithsharpedgesthatmay
damagetheconveyorbelt.

Youcanusethemachineincoldweather,with
certainlimitations,toapplyasalt/sandmixtureon
pavementforicecontrol.ThePVCconveyorbelt
materialbecomesverystiffincoldweatherand
requiresmorepowertooperate.Thelifeofthebeltis
reducedbyapproximately50%whenoperatedbelow
temperaturesof5degreesC(40degreesF).Under
noconditionsshouldthetopdresserbeoperated
belowtemperaturesof-7degreesC(20degrees
F).
1.Increasethebelttensionbyadjustingthespring
compressionto101mm(4inches).Referto

2.Alwaysrunthebeltbeforeaddingmaterial,to
ensurethatnomoisturehasfrozenthebelt
system.Damagetothebeltorrollermayoccur
ifslippageoccursbetweenthebeltandthedrive
roller.

adjustmentbeforeoperatingthemachine
