PreparingforColdWeather
Operation
Althoughlimitedbythetractionofthedrivetires,you
mayusethemachineincoldweather.Withcertain
limitations,youmayusethemachinetoapplya
salt/sandmixtureonpavementforicecontrol.The
PVCconveyorbeltmaterialbecomesverystiffincold
weatherandrequiresmorepowertooperatebelt.
Thelifeofthebeltisreducedbyapproximately50%
whenoperatedbelowtemperaturesof40degreesF .
(5degreesC.).
Important:Donotoperatethetopdresserduring
temperaturesof-7°C(20°F)orlower.
1.Increasethebelttensionbyadjustingspring
compressionto4inches(101mm);referto
TensioningtheConveyor-BeltChain(page22).
2.Runbeltbeforeloadingthehopperwithmaterial
toassurethatbeltsystemmovesfreely.
Important:Ifbelt/driverollerslip,damageto
beltorrollermayoccur.
Important:Beforeoperatingthemachineduring
warmweather,adjustthebelttensionto4-7/16
inches(112mm)springcompression.
OperatingTips
Thetopdressermaterialapplicationsystemis
grounddriven,soyouneedtotowthemachineto
checktheoperationofthebeltandbrush.
Topdressingworksbestwhentowingthemachine
3.2to13kph(2to8mph).Themachine
compensatesforvariationsintravelspeed,and
willgiveconsistentdistribution,evenifyourtravel
speedchangesduringapassacrossthegreen.
Theoperator/superintendentshouldmakethegate
settingselection(variablein1/8incrementsto13)
andmakearstpasstodetermineifapplication
rateisacceptable.
Whenapplyingsand,refertotheSandApplication
Rate(page15)foradditionalinformation.
Afterthemachineismoving,operationbegins
whenthehandcontrolswitchisactivated.It
mayrequirepracticetostartandstoptheowof
materialatthedesiredareaofagreenorteebox.
Beforeloadinghopper,makesurethatthe
topdresserisproperlyconnectedtotowvehicle,
topreventip-uporanyunintendedtongue
movement.Donotdisconnectthetopdresserfrom
towvehiclewhilematerialisinthehopper.The
tonguemayipupcausinginjury.
Thetopdresseriswiderthanmosttractionunits.
Beforetravelingthroughanarrowareasuchasa
gate,doorentry,etc.,checkwidthoftheopening
beforeproceeding,andallowclearancetoturn
themachine.
Thetopdresseraddsextratowingweighttothe
tractionunit.Driveitsafely.
Donotdriveonthehighwayorapublicroad.
Alwaysslowthetractionunitwhenapproaching
andwhilemakingaturn.
Alwaysslowthetractionunitwhendrivinginan
unfamiliarareaoroverroughterrain.
Alwaysslowthetractionunitwhenchanging
directionoftravelorwhenpreparingtostop.
Whenturningordrivingthemachineona
slope,alwaysslowthetractionunit,thenturn
themachinetopreventlosingcontroland
possiblerollover.
Donotmakesuddenorsharpturns.Donot
suddenlychangedirectionoftravelonan
incline,ramp,grade,slope,orsimilarsurface.
Alwaysadjustthetractionunitspeedto
allowforexistinggroundconditionssuchas
wetorslicksurfaces,loosesandorgravel,
low-visibilityconditionssuchasdimorbright
lighting,fog,mist,orrain.
Beespeciallycarefulwhendrivingaheavily
loadedvehicledownaninclineorslope.Drive
thevehicleupanddownthefaceoftheslopes,
