Improperuseormaintenancebytheoperatoror
ownercanresultininjury.Toreducethepotential
forinjury,complywiththesesafetyinstructions
andalwayspayattentiontothesafetyalert
symbol,whichmeansCAUTION,WARNING,or
DANGER-"personalsafetyinstruction."Failureto
complywiththeinstructionmayresultinpersonal
injuryordeath.
BeforeOperating
•ReadandunderstandthecontentsofthisOperator’s
Manualbeforeoperatingthemachine.Become
familiarwithallcontrolsandknowhowtostop
quickly.
•Neverallowchildrentooperatethemachine.Donot
allowadultstooperatethemachinewithoutproper
instructions.Onlytrainedandauthorizedpersons
shouldoperatethisvehicle.Anyonewhooperates
thevehicleshouldhaveamotorvehiclelicense.
•Neveroperatethemachinewhenundertheinuence
ofdrugsoralcohol.
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.If
lightningisseenorthunderisheardinthearea,do
notoperatethemachine;seekshelter.
•Keepallshieldsandsafetydevicesinplace.Ifa
shield,safetydeviceordecalisillegibleordamaged,
repairorreplaceitbeforeoperationiscommenced.
•Tightenanyloosenuts,boltsandscrewstoassure
machineisinsafeoperatingcondition.Makesure
Topdressertonguemountingpins,hitchpinsand
tonguejackareinplaceandsecure.
•Donotmodifythisequipmentinanymanner.
•Donotoperatemachinewhilewearingsandals,
tennisshoes,sneakersorshorts.Also,donot
wearloosettingclothingwhichcouldgetcaught
inmovingparts.Alwayswearlongpantsand
substantialshoes.Wearingsafetyglasses,safetyshoes
andahelmetisadvisableandrequiredbysomelocal
ordinancesandinsuranceregulations.
WhileOperating
•Donotruntheengineinaconnedareawithout
adequateventilation.Exhaustfumesarehazardous
andcouldpossiblybedeadly.
•NEVERcarrypassengersontheTopDresserand
keepeveryoneawayfromtheareasofoperation.
•Keephandsandfeetoutofhopperwhenunitis
operatingorengineisrunningontowvehicle.
•Operatorandpassengershouldremainseated
wheneverthetowvehicleisinmotion.
•Usingthemachinedemandsattention.Failureto
operatetowvehiclesafelymayresultinanaccident,
tipoveroftowvehicleandseriousinjuryordeath.
Drivecarefully.Topreventtippingorlossofcontrol:
–Useextremecaution,reducespeedandmaintain
asafedistancearoundsandtraps,ditches,creeks,
ramps,anyunfamiliarareasorotherhazards.
–Watchforholesorotherhiddenhazards.
–Usecautionwhenoperatingtowvehicleona
steepslope.Normallytravelstraightupand
downslopes.Reducespeedwhenmakingsharp
turnsorwhenturningonhillsides.Avoidturning
onhillsideswheneverpossible.
–Useextracautionwhenoperatingtowvehicleon
wetsurfaces,athigherspeedsorwithafullload.
Stoppingtimewillincreasewithafullload.Shift
intoalowergearbeforestartingupordowna
hill.
–Avoidsuddenstopsandstarts.Donotgofrom
reversetoforwardorforwardtoreversewithout
comingtoacompletestop.
–Donotattemptsharpturnsorabruptmaneuvers
orotherunsafedrivingactionsthatmaycause
alossofcontrol.
–Beforebackingup,looktotherearandassureno
oneisbehind.Backupslowly.
–Watchoutfortrafcwhennearorcrossingroads.
Alwaysyieldtherightofwaytopedestriansand
othervehicles.Thismachineisnotdesigned
foruseonstreetsorhighways.Alwayssignal
yourturnsorstopearlyenoughsootherpersons
knowwhatyouplantodo.Obeyalltrafcrules
andcheckforlocalregulationsontheoperation
ofthetopdresseronornearhighways.
–Alwayswatchoutforandavoidlowover-hangs
suchastreelimbs,doorjambs,over-head
walkways,etc.Makesurethereisenoughroom
overheadtoeasilyclearthetowvehicleandyour
head.
–Ifeverunsureaboutsafeoperation,STOP
WORKandaskyoursupervisor.
•Whenloadingwithsand,distributeloadevenly.
Operatetowvehiclewithextracautionwhenthe
hopperisfullofsand.Keeploadbalancedtoprevent
itfromshifting.
