•Donotoperatethemachinewithoutallguards
andothersafetyprotectivedevicesinplaceand
workingonthemachine.
•Keepclearofanydischargeopening.Keep
bystandersandpetsasafedistanceawayfrom
themachine.
•Keepchildrenoutoftheoperatingarea.Never
allowchildrentooperatethemachine.
•Stopthemachineandshutofftheenginebefore
servicing,fueling,oruncloggingthemachine.
Improperlyusingormaintainingthismachinecan
resultininjury.T oreducethepotentialforinjury,
complywiththesesafetyinstructionsandalwayspay
attentiontothesafety-alertsymbol,whichmeans
Caution,Warning,orDanger—personalsafety
instruction.Failuretocomplywiththeseinstructions
mayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.

SafeOperatingPractices
Training
•ReadtheOperator'sManualandothertraining
materialcarefully.Befamiliarwiththecontrols,
safetysigns,andtheproperuseoftheequipment.
•Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwith
theseinstructionstousethemachine.Local
regulationsmayrestricttheageoftheoperator.
•Neveroperatethemachinewhilepeople,
especiallychildren,orpetsarenearby.
•Theowner/operatorcanpreventandisresponsible
foraccidentsthatmaycausepersonalinjuryor
propertydamage.
•Donotcarrypassengers.
•Alldriversandmechanicsshouldseekandobtain
professionalandpracticalinstruction.Theowneris
responsiblefortrainingtheusers.Suchinstruction
shouldemphasize:
–theneedforcareandconcentrationwhen
workingwithride-onmachines;
–controlofaride-onmachineslidingonaslope
willnotberegainedbytheapplicationofthe
brake.Themainreasonsforlossofcontrolare:
◊insufcientwheelgrip;
◊beingdriventoofast;
◊inadequatebraking;
◊thetypeofmachineisunsuitableforits
task;
◊lackofawarenessoftheeffectofground
conditions,especiallyslopes;
◊incorrecthitchingandloaddistribution.
Preparation
•Wearappropriateclothing,includingeye
protection;substantial,slip-resistantfootwear;and
hearingprotection.Tiebacklonghairanddonot
wearjewelry.
•Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyandsafely

listofallapprovedattachmentsandaccessories.
•Checkthatoperatorspresencecontrols,safety
switches,andshieldsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperateunlesstheyare
functioningproperly.
Operation
•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspace
wheredangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescan
collect.
•Operatethemachineonlyindaylightoringood
articiallight.
•Rememberthatthereisnosuchthingasasafe
slope.Travelongrassslopesrequiresparticular
care.Toguardagainstoverturning:
–Donotstoporstartsuddenlywhengoingup
ordownhill.
–Themachinespeedshouldbekeptlowon
slopesandduringtightturns.
–Stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandother
hiddenhazards.
–Neveroperatethemachineacrossthefaceof
theslope,unlessthemachineisdesignedfor
thatpurpose.
•Stayalertforholesintheterrainandotherhidden
hazards.
•Usecarewhenusingheavyequipment.
–Donotturnsharply.Usecarewhenreversing.
