Safety
ThismachinehasbeendesignedinaccordancewithENISO
12100:2010.
Improperlyusingormaintainingthemachinecanresult
ininjury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,complywith
thesesafetyinstructionsandalwayspayattentiontothe
safetyalertsymbol,whichmeansCaution,Warning,or
Danger—personalsafetyinstruction.Failuretocomplywith
theinstructionmayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.
SafeOperatingPractices
ThefollowinginstructionsareadaptedfromtheCEN
standardENISO12100:2010.
Training
•ReadtheOperator'sManualandothertrainingmaterial
carefully.Befamiliarwiththecontrols,safetysigns,and
theproperuseofthemachine.
•Iftheoperator(s)ormechanic(s)cannotreador
understandtheinformationitistheowner'sresponsibility
toexplainthismaterialtothem.
•Alloperatorsandmechanicsshouldbetrained.The
ownerisresponsiblefortrainingtheusers.
•Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwiththese
instructionstouseorservicethemachine.Local
regulationsmayrestricttheageoftheoperator.
•Neveroperatethemachinewhilepeople,especially
children,orpetsarenearby.
•Keepinmindthattheoperatororuserisresponsiblefor
accidentsorhazardsoccurringtootherpeopleortheir
property.
•Theowner/usercanpreventandisresponsiblefor
accidentsorinjuriesoccurringtopeopleordamageto
property
•Donotcarrypassengers.
•Alldriversshouldseekandobtainprofessionaland
practicalinstruction.Suchinstructionshouldemphasize:
–Theneedforcareandconcentrationwhenworking
withride-onmachines;
–Controlofaride-onmachineslidingonaslopewill
notberegainedbytheapplicationofthetransmission
pedals.
Themainreasonsforlossofcontrolare:
–Insufcientrollergrip;
–Beingdriventoofast;
–Inadequatebraking;
–Thetypeofmachineisunsuitableforthetask;
–Lackofawarenessoftheeffectofgroundconditions,
especiallyslopes
•Watchoutfortrafcwhencrossingornearroadways.
Preparation
•Whileoperatingthemachine,alwayswearsubstantial
footwear,longtrousers,hardhat,safetyglasses,andear
protection.Longhair,looseclothing,orjewelrymayget
tangledinmovingparts.Donotoperatethemachine
whenbarefootorwearingopensandals.
•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethemachineistobe
used,andremoveallobjectswhichmaybedamagedby
themachine.
•Warning:Fuelishighlyammable.Takethefollowing
precautions:
–Storefuelincontainersspecicallydesignedforthis
purpose.
–Fueloutdoorsonly,anddonotsmokewhilefuelling.
–Addfuelbeforestartingtheengine.Neverremove
thecapofthefueltankoraddfuelwhiletheengineis
runningorwhentheengineishot.
–Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostarttheengine
butmovethemachineawayfromtheareaofspillage
andavoidcreatinganysourceofignitionuntilfuel
vaporshavedissipated.
–Installallfuel-tankcapsandcontainercapssecurely.
•Replacewornordamagedsilencers.
•Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessoriesand
attachmentsareneededtoproperlyandsafelyperform
thejob.Onlyuseaccessoriesandattachmentsapproved
bythemanufacturer.
•Checkthattheshieldsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperateunlesstheyarefunctioning
properly.
Operation
•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspacewhere
dangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescancollect.
•Operatethemachineonlyindaylightoringoodarticial
light.
•Stayalertforholesintheterrainandotherhiddenhazards.
•Avoidoperatingthemachineinwetgrass,wherefeasible.
•Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon
slopes.
•Donotuseonexcessivelysteepslopes.
•Rememberthatthereisnosuchthingasasafeslope.
Travelongrassslopesrequiresparticularcare.Toguard
againstoverturning:
–Donotstoporstartsuddenlywhengoingupor
downhill.
–Engagethetransmissionslowly.
–Stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandotherhidden
hazards.
–Neveroperateacrossthefaceoftheslope,unlessthe
machineisdesignedforthispurpose.
