HydraulicHoses
Thehydraulichosesaresubjecttoextremeconditionssuchaspressure
differentialsduringoperationandexposuretoweather,sun,chemicals,very
warmstorageconditions,inadditiontomishandlingduringoperationand
maintenance.Theseconditionscancausedamagetothehoseordeterioration
tothehosematerial.Somehosesaremoresusceptibletotheseconditions
thanothers.Examineallofthehydraulichosesofthemachinefrequentlyand
repairorreplacethemasnecessary.Hosesthatmoveduringnormalmachine
operationshouldbereplacedevery2years.Checkhydraulichosesforthe
followingsignsofdeteriorationordamage:
•Ahosethatishard,cracked,cut,abraded,charred,leaking,orotherwise
damaged.
•Ahosethatiskinked,crushed,attened,ortwisted.
•Ahosecoverthatisblistered,soft,degraded,orloose.
•Hosettingsthatarecracked,damaged,orbadlycorroded.
WARNING
Beforedisconnectingorperforminganyworkonthehydraulic
system,shutofftheengineandpressthemotioncontrolpedalsto
releasethepressureinthesystem.
•Keepyourbodyandhandsawayfrompin-holeleaksornozzles
thatejecthydraulicuidunderhighpressure.
•Donotuseyourhandstosearchforleaks;useapieceofpaper
orcardboard.
•Hydraulicuidescapingunderpressurecanhavesufcientforce
topenetratetheskinandcauseseriousinjury.
•Ifhydraulicuidisinjectedintoyourskin,theuiddamageto
yourbodymustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhoursbya
doctorfamiliarwiththisformofinjuryorgangrenemayresult.
Whenyoureplaceahydraulichose,ensurethatthehoseisstraight(nottwisted)
beforeyoutightenthettings.Observetheimprint(layline)onthehosetodo
this.Using2wrenches,holdthehosestraightwith1wrenchandtightenthe
hoseswivelnutontothettingwiththeotherwrench;refertoInstallingthe
HydraulicHosesandTubes(page5–12).
Note:Ifthehosehasanelbowat1end,tightentheswivelnutontheelbowend
beforeyoutightenthenutonthestraightendofthehose.
