Aparkingbrakeswitchaspartofthemachineinterlocksystem(Figure?).The
parkingbrakeswitchislocatedbelowthebrakelever.Whentheparkingbrake
isapplied,theparkingbrakeleverpressestheparkingbrakeswitchplunger,
closingtheswitch.Theparkingbrakelevermovesawayfromtheswitchwhen
theparkingbrakeisreleased,allowingtheswitchtoreturntoitsnormallyopen
condition.Theinterlockmodulemonitorsthepositionoftheparkingbrakeswitch
(openorclosed).Usinginputsfromtheparkingbrakeswitchandotherswitches
intheinterlocksystem,theinterlockmoduleopensorclosestheengineignition
circuit(controlscircuitground).
TestingtheParkingBrakeSwitch
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,engagetheparkingbrake,andshutoff
theengine.
2.Disconnectthewireharnessconnectorfromtheparkingbrakeswitch.
3.Checkthewireharnessconnectorforcorrosionandcleantheconnector
ifnecessary.
4.Useamultimeter(ohmssetting)andtesttheswitch.Theswitchisclosed
(continuityexistsbetweentheterminals)whentheparkingbrakeisapplied
(raised),andopen(nocontinuityexistsbetweentheterminals)whenthe
parkingbrakeisreleased(lowered).
5.Replacetheparkingbrakeswitchiftestingdeterminesthatitisdamaged.
6.Iftheparkingbrakeswitchtestingiscorrectandacircuitproblemstillexists,
checkthewireharnessforthecircuitcontinuity;refertotheElectrical
SchematicsandWireHarnessDrawings/Diagrams(page6–3).
7.Aftertesting,applyalmofdielectricgreasetotheswitchterminalsand
connectthemachinewireharnessconnectortotheparkingbrakeswitch.
