Safety
Improperuseormaintenancebytheoperatororowner
canresultininjury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,
complywiththesesafetyinstructionsandalwayspay
attentiontothesafetyalertsymbol,whichmeans
CAUTION,WARNING,orDANGER-"personalsafety
instruction."Failuretocomplywiththeinstructionmay
resultinpersonalinjuryordeath.
BeforeOperating
•Themachinehasdifferentbalance,weight,andhandling
characteristicscomparedtosomeothertypesofpulled
equipment.Readandunderstandthecontentsofthis
Operator'sManualbeforeoperatingthemachine.Become
familiarwithallcontrolsandknowhowtostopquickly.
•Neverallowchildrentooperatethemachine.Donot
allowadultstooperatethemachinewithoutproper
instructions.Onlytrainedandauthorizedpersonsshould
operatethismachine.Anyonewhooperatesthetow
vehicleshouldhaveamotorvehiclelicense.
•Neveroperatethemachinewhenundertheinuenceof
drugsoralcohol.
•Keepallshieldsandsafetydevicesinplace.Ifashield,
safetydeviceordecalisillegibleordamaged,repairor
replaceitbeforeoperationiscommenced.
•Tightenanyloosenuts,boltsandscrewstoassure
machineisinsafeoperatingcondition.Makesurethe
machinetonguemountingpins,hitchpinsandtongue
jackareinplaceandsecure.
•Donotmodifythisequipmentinanymanner.
•Donotoperatemachinewhilewearingsandals,tennis
shoes,sneakersorshorts.Also,donotwearloosetting
clothingwhichcouldgetcaughtinmovingparts.Always
wearlongpantsandsubstantialshoes.Wearingsafety
glasses,safetyshoesandahelmetisadvisableandrequired
bysomelocalordinancesandinsuranceregulations.
•Thecapabilitiesofthemachinemayvarydependingon
thesizeandtypeoftowvehicle.
–Forbestresults,useatowvehiclewithatleast45hp
andfourwheeldrive.Atowvehiclewithlessthan45
hpwilllimitwhereyoucangoandhowmuchpayload
youcandeliver.Forexample,a27hptowvehiclecan
towafullyloadedmachineoveratterrain,butnot
onsteephills.Afourwheeldrivewillalsoimprove
performanceonhills.
–Withasmallertowvehicle,youmayneedtoreduce
thepayloadto2.6cubicyards(2cubicmeters)of
materialforspreadingindifcultterrain.Another
optionistotowafullyloadedmachinetoaspotnear
thejobandthenloadsmallermachinesfromthe
machinetocompletethejob.
–Forbestresults,useatowvehiclewithaxed
displacementhydraulicpumpwithapoweroutput
of2,000psi@10gal/min(138bar@38L/min).
Performancewillbereducedifpumpoutputisless.
–Whenfullyloaded,themachinecanweighup
to15,432lb(7,000kg).Donotgobeyondthe
limitationsofthetowvehicle.
–Ensurethatthetowvehiclehasenoughpowerand
tractiontopullafullload.Ifnot,reducethesizeof
loads.
–Thetowvehiclemusthaveanadequatehitchand
functionalbrakes.
•Thetongueistheareaonthemachinewherethehitch
connectstothetowvehicle.Theweightofthetongue
affectsthestabilityofthemachine.
–Whenthetongue’sweightisforcedupintothehitch
ofthetowvehicle,thisproducesanegativetongue
weight.Negativetongueweightmayalsoresultwhen
optionsaremountedontherearofthemachine.
–Whenthetongue’sweightisforceddownontothe
hitchofthetowvehicle,thisproducesapositive
tongueweight.
–Anegativeorpositivetongueweightcancauseinjury
whenconnectingordisconnectingthemachinetothe
towvehicle.Ensurethatthejackstandsareproperly
engaged.
–Tobalancethetongueweight,raiseorlowertherear
ofthemachineby4-6inches(10-15cm).However,
beawarethatraisingthemachinecanincreasethe
riskoftipping.
WhileOperating
•Donotruntheengineinaconnedareawithout
adequateventilation.Exhaustfumesarehazardousand
couldpossiblybedeadly.
•NEVERcarrypassengersonthemachineandkeep
everyoneawayfromtheareasofoperation.
•Keephandsandfeetoutofhopperwhenunitisoperating
orengineisrunningontowvehicle.
•Operatorshouldremainseatedwheneverthetowvehicle
isinmotion.
•Usingthemachinedemandsattention.Failuretooperate
towvehiclesafelymayresultinanaccident,tipoverof
towvehicleandseriousinjuryordeath.Drivecarefully.
Topreventtippingorlossofcontrol:
–Useextremecaution,reducespeedandmaintain
asafedistancearoundsandtraps,ditches,creeks,
ramps,anyunfamiliarareasorotherhazards.
–Watchforholesorotherhiddenhazards.
–Usecautionwhenoperatingtowvehicleonasteep
slope.Normallytravelstraightupanddownslopes.
Reducespeedwhenmakingsharpturnsorwhen
turningonhillsides.Avoidturningonhillsides
wheneverpossible.
