andLinings
ServiceInterval:Monthly
Whenabrakeshoebecomesworn,replaceboth
shoesoneachbrake,andbothbrakesonthesame
axle.Thisensuresthatthebrakesremainbalanced.
Replacethebrakeliningsunderthefollowing
conditions:
•Theyarewornto1/16inch(1.6mm)orless
remainingthickness.
•Theyarecontaminatedwithgreaseoroil.
•Theyareabnormallyscoredorgouged.
Note:Hairlineheatcracksarenormalinthe
brakelinings.
BrakeCleaningand
Inspection
ServiceInterval:YearlyMoreoftenwithheavyuse
andwear.
•Changemagnetsandshoeswhentheybecome
wornorscored.
•Cleanthebackingplate,magnetarm,magnet,and
brakeshoeswithanautomotivebrakecleaner.
•Ensurethatallpartsremovedarereplacedinthe
samebrakeanddrumassemblythattheywere
removedfrom.
•Inspectthemagnetarmforanylooseorworn
parts.
•Checktheshoereturnsprings,theholddown
springs,andtheadjusterspringsforstretchor
deformationandreplacethemifrequired.
CAUTION
Brakedustcanbehazardoustoyourhealth
ifinhaled;takethefollowingprecautions
whenservicingbrakes:
–Donotcreateorbreathedust.
–Donotmachine,le,orgrindthebrake
linings.
–Donotusecompressedairordry
brushingforcleaning.
BrakeLubrication
Beforereassemblingtheelectricbrakes,applya
lightlmofanti-seizecompound,orgreasesuchas
Lubriplate™onthefollowing:
•Brakeanchorpin
•Actuatingarmbushingandpin
•Areasonthebackingplatethatareincontactwith
thebrakeshoesandmagnetleverarm
•Actuatingblockontheactuatingarm
Important:Donotallowgreasetocontactthe
brakelinings,drums,ormagnets.
InspectingtheMagnets
Theelectromagnetsofthebrakesaredesignedto
providetheproperinputforceandfriction.
Inspectthemagnetsregularly,andreplaceifthey
becomeunevenlyworn.Useatoolwithastraight
edgetocheckwear.
Evenifthewearisnormal,replacethemagnetsifany
partofthemagnetcoilisvisiblethroughthefriction
materialonthemagnetface.Replacethemagnetsin
pairs(bothsidesofanaxle).
Whenreplacingthemagnets,alsoresurfacethedrum
armaturesurface.
