YearlyBrakeCleaningand
Inspection
Inspectandserviceyourelectricbrakesonceayear
ormoreoftenwithheavyuseordecliningperformance
•Changemagnetsandshoeswhentheybecome
wornorscored.
•Cleanthebackingplate,magnetarm,magnet,and
brakeshoeswithanautomotivebrakecleaner.
•Ensurethatallpartsremovedarereplacedinthe
samebrakeanddrumassemblythattheywere
removedfrom.
•Inspectthemagnetarmforanylooseorworn
parts.
•Checktheshoereturnsprings,theholddown
springs,andtheadjusterspringsforstretchor
deformationandreplacethemifrequired.

Brakedustcanbehazardoustoyour
healthifinhaled,takeprecautionswhen
servicingbrakes:
–Donotcreateorbreathedust.
–Donotmachine,le,orgrindthebrake
linings.
–Donotusecompressedairordry
brushingforcleaning.
BrakeLubrication
Beforereassemblingtheelectricbrakes,applya
lightlmofanti-seizecompound,orgreasesuchas
“Lubriplate,”onthe:
•brakeanchorpin
•actuatingarmbushingandpin
•areasonthebackingplatethatareincontactwith
thebrakeshoesandmagnetleverarm
•actuatingblockontheactuatingarm
Important:Donotallowgreasetocontactthe
brakelinings,drums,ormagnets.
InspectingtheMagnets
Thebrakes’electromagnetsaredesignedtoprovide
theproperinputforceandfriction.
Inspectthemagnetsregularly,andreplaceifthey
becomeunevenlyworn.Useatoolwithastraight
edgetocheckwear.
Evenifthewearisnormal,youshouldreplacethe
magnetsifanypartofthemagnetcoilisvisible
throughthefrictionmaterialonthemagnetface.
Replacethemagnetsinpairs(bothsidesofanaxle).
Whenreplacingthemagnets,alsoresurfacethedrum
armaturesurface.
