5.Cutwiththebranchneartherearoftheguidebar,closeto
thecuttingguide;pressthesawchainlightlyagainstthe
woodandallowtheweightofthepolesawtodrivethe
cutting(Figure11).
Important:Ifthechainbindsinthecut,donot
attempttofreeitbyrunningthemotor.Shutoffthepole
saw,disconnecttheplugfromthepowersource,andlift
thelimbwhileholdingthesaw;thisshouldreleasethe
pinchandfreethepolesaw.

Cuttinghigherlimbsfromatreeoffthegroundcanput
youinanunstablepositionthatcouldbeunsafefor
youwhilehandlingapolesaw,resultinginpossible
seriouspersonalinjuryordeathtoyouorbystanders.
Whencuttinglimbsfromastandingtree,usethe
followingpractices:
Donotclimbonlimbsorbrancheswithapolesaw.
Donotoverreach,andcutwithbothhandsonthe
polesaw.
Ensurethatallbystandersareawayfromthearea
wherebranchesmayfall.
1.GripthepolesawasdescribedinCuttingwiththePoleSaw
(page9).
2.Whilecuttingsmallbranches,applylightpressuretothe
branchtobecut.
3.Whilecuttinglargerbranches,makeashallowundercutand
thencompletethecutfromthetopsideofthebranch.
A.Cutfromtheundersideofthelimbabout15cm(6
inches)fromthetrunk.Cutathirdofthewaythrough
thelimb.
B.Cut5.0to10.0cm(2to4inches)fartheroutonthelimb
andfromabove.Cutthelimbuntilitfalls.
C.Cutthelimbstubatthebranchcollar(Figure12).
Important:Donotcutthelimbpastthecollar,
ushtothetrunk,orleavealargelimbstub;this
damagesthetree.
