AdjustingtheChain
Tension
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Ensurethatthechainisproperlytensioned.
Aloosechainshortensthelifeofthedrivesprocketandtheguide
barandmaycausethechaintofalloff.
Anovertightenedchainoverheatstheguidebarandchain,
causingrapidwear,andmayburnoutthemotororbreakthe
chain.
Thechaintensioniscorrectwhenyouareabletouseagloved
handtopullthechainsmoothlyaroundtheguidebar.Thechain
shouldremainincontactwiththebottomedgeoftheguidebar.
Also,checkthechaintensionofanewchainafterafewcuts;a
newchainusuallystretchesandrequiresadjustmentafterafew
cuts.
DANGER
Contactwiththepolesawteethcancauseserious
personalinjury.
Disconnecttheplugfromthepowersourcebefore
adjustingormaintainingthepolesaw.
Alwaysweargloveswhenadjustingormaintaining
thepolesaw.
1.Placethepolesawonalevelsurfaceanddisconnectthe
machinefromthepowersupply;refertoShuttingOffthe
PoleSaw(page9).
2.Allowthesawchaintocool.
Important:Donottensionahotchain;itmay
contractasitcools,resultinginanovertightenedchain.
3.Inspecttheguidebarforbendsordamage,replaceif
necessary.
4.Turnthebarcoverknobcounterclockwisetoloosenthebar
cover,butdonotremoveit(Figure15).

byturningthebarcoverknobclockwisebeforechecking
thetension(Figure15).
Totightenthechain,turnthechaintensioningscrew
clockwise.
Toloosenthechain,turnthechaintensioningscrew
counterclockwise.

Adjustthechaintensionuntilthechaintouchesthebottom
edgeoftheguidebar,thenpullthechainawayfromthe
bottomedgeoftheguidebar;aproperlyadjustedchaincan
onlybepulled3.2to6.4mm(1/8to1/4inch)awayfromthe
guidebar,andsnapsbackonrelease.
Note:Whileadjustingthechaintension,liftupthetipof
theguidebarwithaglovedhandtoensuretheguidebar
doesnotsagandaffectchaintension.
6.Useaglovedhandtopullthechainaroundtheguidebar.A
properlytensionedchainshouldmovesmoothlyandremain
incontactwiththebottomedgeoftheguidebar.
