6.PoleSawSafety
A.Keepallpartsofthebodyawayfromthesawchain.
Donotremovecutmaterialorholdmaterialtobe
cutwhenthesawchainismoving.Ensurethatthe
switchisoffandthepowersourceisdisconnected
whenclearingjammedmaterial.Thesawchain
continuestomoveaftertheyouturnofftheswitch.
Beforeyoustartthepolesaw,ensurethatthe
sawchainisnotcontactinganything.Amoment
ofinattentionwhileoperatingpolesawsmaycause
entanglementofyourclothingorbodywiththesaw
chain.
B.Carrythepolesawbythehandlewiththesawchain
stopped.Whentransportingorstoringthepole
saw,alwaystthesawchaindevicecover.Proper
handlingofthepolesawwillreducepossiblepersonal
injuryfromthesawchain.
C.Holdthepowertoolbyinsulatedgrippingsurfaces
only,becausethesawchainmaycontacthidden
wiring.Sawchainscontactinga″live″wiremaymake
exposedmetalpartsofthepowertool″live″andcould
giveyouanelectricshock.
D.Donotusethepolesawinbadweatherconditions,
especiallywhenthereisariskoflightning.This
decreasestheriskofbeingstruckbylightning.
E.Toreducetheriskofelectrocution,neverusenear
anyelectricalpowerlines.Contactwithorusenear
powerlinesmaycauseseriousinjuryorelectricshock
resultingindeath.
F.Alwaysusetwohandswhenoperatingthepole
saw.Holdthepolesawwithbothhandstoavoidloss
ofcontrol.
G.Donotoperateapolesawinatree.Operationofa
polesawwhileupinatreemayresultinpersonalinjury.
H.Alwayskeepproperfootingandoperatethepole
sawonlywhenstandingonxed,secureandlevel
surface.Slipperyorunstablesurfacessuchasladders
maycausealossofbalanceorcontrolofthepolesaw.
I.Whencuttingalimbthatisundertensionbealert
forspringback.Whenthetensioninthewoodbersis
releasedthespringloadedlimbmaystrikeyouand/or
throwthepolesawoutofcontrol.
J.Useextremecautionwhencuttingbrushand
saplings.Theslendermaterialmaycatchthesawchain
andbewhippedtowardyouorpullyouoffbalance.
K.Followinstructionsforlubricating,chaintensioning,
andchangingaccessories.Improperlytensioned
orlubricatedchainmayeitherbreakorincreasethe
chanceforkickback.
L.Keephandlesdry,clean,andfreefromoiland
grease.Greasy,oilyhandlesareslipperycausingloss
ofcontrol.
M.Cutwoodonly.Donotusepolesawforpurposes
notintended.Forexample:donotusepolesaw
forcuttingplastic,masonryornon-woodbuilding
materials.Useofthepolesawforoperationsdifferent
thanintendedcouldresultinahazardoussituation.
N.Avoidkickback.Kickbackmayoccurwhenthenose
ortipoftheguidebartouchesanobject,orwhenthe
woodclosesinandpinchesthesawchaininthecut.
Tipcontactinsomecasesmaycauseasuddenreverse
reaction,kickingtheguidebarupandbacktowardyou.
Pinchingthesawchainalongthetopoftheguidebar
maypushtheguidebarrapidlybacktowardyou.
Eitherofthesereactionsmaycauseyoutolosecontrol
ofthesaw,whichcouldresultinseriouspersonalinjury.
Donotrelyexclusivelyuponthesafetydevicesbuiltinto
yoursaw.Asapolesawuser,youshouldtakeseveral
stepstokeepyourcuttingjobsfreefromaccidentor
injury.
Kickbackistheresultoftoolmisuseand/orincorrect
operatingproceduresorconditionsandcanbeavoided
bytakingproperprecautionsasgivenbelow:
•Maintainarmgrip,withthumbsandngers
encirclingthepolesawhandles,withboth
handsonthehandleandpositionyourbody
andarmtoallowyoutoresistkickbackforces.
Kickbackforcescanbecontrolledbytheoperator,
ifproperprecautionsaretaken.Donotletgoof
thepolesaw.
•Useonlyreplacementbarsandchainsspecied
bythemanufacturer.Incorrectreplacementbars
andchainsmaycausechainbreakageand/or
kickback.
•Followthemanufacturer’ssharpeningand
maintenanceinstructionsforthesawchain.
Decreasingthedepthgaugeheightcanleadto
increasedkickback.
