Duringoperation,thetrimmermaythrowobjectsinthe
operator’sorabystander’sdirection,causinginjury.
•Wearsafetygogglesorothersuitableeyeprotection,
longpants,andshoeswhileoperatingthetrimmer.
•Donotusethetrimmerasanedger.
•Keeppeopleandpetsawayfromthetrimmingarea.
Toreducelinewearandandimprovetrimmingperformance,usethe
followingtechniqueswhentrimming:
•Inspecttheareatobetrimmedforanywire,rope,orstring-like
matterwhichcouldbecomeentangledintherotatingline.Remove
anyobjectsordebristhatcouldbethrownbythetrimmer.
•Trimonlywhenthegrassandweedsaredry.
•Slowlymovethetrimmerinandoutoftheareabeingcut(Figure5).

•Cutgrassorweedsover8inchestallfromthetoptothebottomin

•Donotforcethetrimmer.Allowtheverytipofthenylonlinetodo
thecutting,especiallyalongwalls.
•Donotdragthetrimmerspoolonthegroundwhiletrimming.
•Aftereachuse,feedoutsomelinetopreventitfromretracting
intothecuttinghead.
•Thetrimmercannotbeovercharged.Keepitonthechargerwhen
youarenotusingitduringthetrimmingseason.
•Storethetrimmerinacool,drylocationawayfromdirectsunlight
andheatsources.
LengtheningtheLine
Thetipofthecuttinglinewillwearduringuseandreducethecutting
swath.
Toincreasethelengthoftheline,tapthespoolonthegroundwhile
thetrimmerisrunning(Figure6).

Note:Thebladeundertheguardwillautomaticallycutthelinetothe
correctlength.
Important:Takethefollowingprecautionstoensureoptimalline
performance:
•Donotholdthespoolontheground.
•Tapthespoolonlyoncetolengthentheline.Ifyouneedadditional
line,waitafewsecondsbeforetappingthespool.
•Donotallowthelinetoweartooshort.
•Keepthelinelengthatfullcuttingdiameterasmuchaspossible.
•Ifthelineisnotadvancedoccasionally,itwillweardowntothe
eyelet.Whenthetrimmerstops,thelinetendstorelaxandmay
retractintothecutterhead.Shouldthisoccur,removethespool,
re-feedthelinethroughtheeyelet,andassemblethespooltothe
trimmer.
ReplacingtheLine
Forreplacementline,youcanpurchaseeitheranew,pre-woundspool
ofline(modelno.88185or88045)orbulkline(0.065inchdia.x10
ft.)thatyoucanwindontotheoldspool.Bothareavailablefroman
AuthorizedToroServiceDealer.
IfyouuselineotherthanToro.065inchdia.nylon
monolament,itcouldcutthroughclothesandskincausing
injuryand/oroverloadthemotor,possiblycausingareor
electricalshock.Donotusemetalwire,rope,plasticknives,
oranycuttinglineormaterialotherthanToro.065inchdia.
nylonmonolament,10footmaximumlinelength.
Thespoolmaywearduringnormaluseandrequireoccasional
replacement.
Note:Ifthelineshouldtangleorbreakattheeyelet,stopthetrimmer,
removethespoolasdescribedbelow,feedthelinethroughtheeyelet,
andreassemblethespooltothecuttinghead.
Ifyoudonotfullyinstallthespoolandcap,thetrimmercould
throwthemduringoperation,causinginjurytotheoperator
orbystanders.Ensurethatyoufullyinstallthespooland
cap,withthetwolockingtabsonthecapsecuredinthe
spoolhousing.
