Cuttinghigherlimbsfromatreeofftheground
canputyouinanunstablepositionthatcould
beunsafeforyouwhilehandlingachainsaw,
resultinginpossibleseriouspersonalinjury
ordeathtoyouorbystanders.
Whencuttinglimbsfromastandingtree,use
thefollowingpractices:
•Donotclimbonlimbsorbrancheswitha
chainsaw.
•Donotoverreach,andcutwithbothhands
onthechainsaw.
•Ensurethatallbystandersareawayfrom
theareawherebranchesmayfall.
1.GripthechainsawasshowninFigure13.
2.Whilecuttingsmallbranches,applylight
pressuretothebranchtobecut.
3.Whilecuttinglargerbranches,makeashallow
undercutandthencompletethecutfromthe
topsideofthebranch.
A.Cutfromtheundersideofthelimbabout15
cm(6inches)fromthetrunk.Cutathirdof
thewaythroughthelimb.
B.Cut5.0to10.0cm(2to4inches)farther
outonthelimbandfromabove.Cutthe
limbuntilitfalls.
C.Cutthelimbstubatthebranchcollar
(Figure15).
Important:Donotcutthelimbpastthe
collar,ushtothetrunk,orleavealarge
limbstub;thisdamagesthetree.

withadiameterlargerthanthelengthof

Looseortangledlimbsaboveyoumaybe
dislodgedbyvibrationfromcutting,causing
severeinjuryordeath.
Alwayslookoverheadforlooseandtangled
limbsbeforecutting;ifyouseeanyloose
limbsorbranches,removethembefore
cutting.
