rst)—Replacethepaperair-cleanerelement.Replace
itmorefrequentlyindustyoperatingconditions.
RemovingtheAirFilter
Important:Donotoperatetheenginewithouttheair
lterassembly;extremeenginedamagewilloccur.
1.Setthethrottletoslow,stoptheengine,andwaitfor
allmovingpartstostop.
2.Disconnectthespark-plugwirefromthesparkplug.
3.Wipecleantheairltercover(Figure19).

4.Removethewingnutthatsecurestheair-ltercoverto
thecarburetorandremovethecover(Figure19).
Note:Becarefultopreventdirtanddebrisfrom
fallingintothebase.
5.Removethefoamlterelementfromthepaperlter
element(Figure19).
6.Inspectthefoamelementfordamage.
Note:Ifthefoamlterelementifitaredamaged,
replaceit.Ifthefoamelementisdirty,cleanit;referto
CleaningtheFoamFilter(page13).
7.Removewingnutthatsecuresthepaperlterelement
tothecarburetor(Figure19).
8.Removethepaperelementandinspectthepaperlter
elementfordamageandexcessiveamountsofdirtin
theelement.
Note:Replacethepaperlterelementifitisdamaged
orexcessivelydirty.
Note:Nevertrytocleanthepaperelement;only
replaceit.
CleaningtheFoamFilter
1.Cleanthefoamlterelementinwarmsoapywaterand
rinsetheelementtheelementincleanwater,orclean
thefoamlterelementinanonammablesolvent.
Note:Donotusegasolinetocleanthefoamelement
becauseitcouldcreateariskofreorexplosion.
2.Allowthefoamlterelementtocompletelydry.
3.Dipthefoamelementincleanengineoil,thensqueeze
outtheexcessoil.
