FillingtheFuelTank
DANGER
Undercertainconditions,dieselfuelandfuel
vaporsarehighlyammableandexplosive.Are
orexplosionfromfuelcanburnyouandothersand
cancausepropertydamage.
Useafunnelandllthefueltankoutdoors,in
anopenarea,whentheengineisoffandiscold.
Wipeupanyfuelthatspills.
Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Add
fueltothefueltankuntilthelevelis1/4to1/2
in.(6to13mm)belowthebottomoftheller
neck.Thisemptyspaceinthetankallowsthe
fueltoexpand.
Neversmokewhenhandlingfuel,andstayaway
fromanopenameorwherefuelfumesmaybe
ignitedbyaspark.
Neverllthefueltankinsideanenclosedtrailer.
Donotoperatewithoutentireexhaustsystemin
placeandinproperworkingcondition.
DANGER
Incertainconditionsduringfueling,static
electricitycanbereleasedcausingasparkwhich
canignitethefuelvapors.Areorexplosionfrom
fuelcanburnyouandothersandcandamage
property.
Alwaysplacefuelcontainersonthegroundaway
fromyourvehiclebeforelling.
Donotllfuelcontainersinsideavehicleoron
atruckortrailerbedbecauseinteriorcarpets
orplastictruckbedlinersmayinsulatethe
containerandslowthelossofanystaticcharge.
Whenpractical,removeequipmentfromthe
truckortrailerandrefueltheequipmentwithits
wheelsontheground.
Ifthisisnotpossible,thenfuelsuchequipment
onatruckortrailerfromaportablecontainer,
ratherthanfromafueldispensernozzle.
Ifafueldispensernozzlemustbeused,keepthe
nozzleincontactwiththerimofthefueltank
orcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingis
complete.
Important:Storefuelinaclean,safety-approved
containerandkeepthecapinplace.
1.Removethecapforthefueltankbyturningthecap
counterclockwiseandtheliftingthecapupuntilthe
quantitysensorisclearofthellerneckofthefuel
tank.(Figure22).
Note:Donotallowthedirtanddebristoenterthe
fueltankortoaccumulateonthequantitysensor.

PrimingtheFuelSystem
Bleedthefuelsystembeforestartingtheengineifanyofthe
followingconditionsoccur:
Initialstartupofanewmachine.
Enginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponfuelsystem
components(e.g.,lterreplaced).
Note:Whenperformed,theengineshouldstartafter
primingthefuelsystem.However,ifenginedoesnotstart,
airmaybetrappedbetweeninjectionpumpandinjectors;
contactyourAuthorizedServiceDealer.
1.Removethekey,andallowtheenginetocool.
