JumpStartingtheBattery
DANGER
Jumpstartingaweakbatterythatiscracked,frozen,
haslowelectrolytelevel,oranopen/shortedbattery
cell,cancauseanexplosionresultinginserious
personalinjury.
Donotjumpstartaweakbatteryiftheseconditions
exist.
WARNING
Batteriescontainacidandproduceexplosivegases.
•Shieldtheeyesandfacefromthebatteriesatall
times.
•Donotleanoverthebatteries.
CAUTION
Corrosionorlooseconnectionscancauseunwanted
electricalvoltagespikesatanytimeduringthejump
startingprocedure.
Donotattempttojumpstartwithlooseorcorroded
batteryterminalsordamagetotheenginemay
occur.
CAUTION
Connectingthejumpercablesincorrectly(wrong
polarity)canimmediatelydamagetheelectrical
system.
Becertainofbatteryterminalpolarityandjumper
cablepolaritywhenhookingupbatteries.

Theseinstructionsarefornegativegroundsystemsonly.
Ensurethefollowingconditionsaremetbeforejump
startingthemachine:
•Theelectricalsystemsofbothmachineshavesamerated
voltage.
•Themachinesdonottouch.
•Theelectricalsystemsofbothmachinesareswitchedoff.
1.Checktheweakbatteryforterminalcorrosion(white,
green,orblue“snow”),itmustbecleanedoffprior
tojumpstarting.Cleanandtightenbatterycable
connectionsasnecessary.
2.Makesurethebatteryoftheboostermachineisingood
conditionandfullychargedto12.6voltsorgreater.
Note:Use4to6AWG(AmericanWiregauge)
jumpercableswithshortlengthstoreducevoltage
dropbetweensystems.
Ensurethatthecablesarecolorcodedorlabeledfor
thecorrectpolarity.
3.Connectthepositive(+)cabletothepositive(+)
terminalofthedischargedbatterythatiswiredtothe
starterorsolenoidasshowninFigure69.
