Starting and Stopping the
Engine
Starting the Engine
1. Sit down on the seat and move the motion controls to
neutral locked position.
2. Set the parking brake; refer to Setting the Parking
Brake, page 17.
3. Move the PTO (power take off) to the off position
(Fig. 12).
4. Move the choke control to on position before starting a
cold engine (Fig. 13).
Note: A warm or hot engine may require choking. After
engine starts, move choke control to the off position.
5. Move the throttle control to the fast position before
starting a cold engine (Fig. 14).
6. Turn ignition key to start to energize starter. When
engine starts, release key (Fig. 15).
Important Do not engage starter for more than
10 seconds at a time. If engine fails to start allow
30 second cool-down period between attempts. Failure to
follow these instructions can burn out starter motor.
7. After the engine starts, move the choke to off (Fig. 13).
If the engine stalls or hesitates, move the choke back
to on for a few seconds. Then move the throttle lever
to desired setting. Repeat this as required.
