Stopping the Engine Operating the Power Takeoff (PTO) CAUTION The power takeoff (PTO) switch starts and stops the mower blades and any powered attachments. Children or bystanders may be injured if they move or attempt to operate the machine while it is unattended. Engaging the PTO Always remove the ignition key and set the parking brake when leaving the machine unattended, even if just for a few minutes. 1. If the engine is cold, allow the engine to warm up 5 to 10 minutes before engaging the PTO.
Using the Safety-Interlock System If the safety system does not operate as described below, have an Authorized Service Dealer repair the safety system immediately. 1. Sitting on the seat, engage the parking brake and move the PTO to ON. Try starting the engine; the engine should not crank. 2. Sitting on the seat, engage the parking brake and move the PTO to OFF. Move either motion-control lever (out of the NEUTRAL-LOCK position). Try starting the engine; the engine should not crank.
2. Move the levers to the center, unlocked position. 3. To go forward, slowly push the motion-control levers forward (Figure 17). To go straight, apply equal pressure to both motion-control levers (Figure 17). To turn, release pressure on the motion-control lever toward the direction you want to turn (Figure 17). Note: The engine kills if the traction control levers are moved with the parking brake engaged. To stop, push the motion-control levers to the NEUTRAL position.
Stopping the Machine Adjusting the Anti-Scalp Rollers To stop the machine, move the traction-control levers to the NEUTRAL position and then to the LOCKED position, disengage the power takeoff (PTO), and turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Whenever you change the height-of-cut, it is recommended to adjust the height of the anti-scalp rollers. Set the parking brake when you leave the machine. Remember to remove the key from the ignition switch.

Pushing the Machine 1. Disengage the power takeoff (PTO) and turn the ignition key to off.
Operating with the Overheat Sensor This machine has a sensor that turns OFF the mower deck when the engine overheats. When the engine overheats, the audible alarm and light alarm turns ON along with the mower deck turning OFF. g028043 Figure 25 If the mower deck turns OFF automatically because of overheating, drive the machine to a safe area and to a truck or trailer. 1. Back the machine up the ramp. If the machine overheats, ensure that the area around the engine and radiator is clear of any debris.
Ensure that the ramp is long enough so that the angle with the ground does not exceed 15 degrees (Figure 26). On flat ground, this requires a ramp to be at least 4 times as long as the height of the trailer or truck bed to the ground. A steeper angle may cause mower components to get caught as the machine moves from the ramp to the trailer or truck. Steeper angles may also cause the machine to tip or lose control.
Using the Z Stand™ The Z Stand raises the front end of the machine to allow you to clean the mower and remove the blades. WARNING The machine could fall onto someone and cause serious injury or death. g001812 • Use extreme caution when operating the machine on the Z Stand™. Figure 28 1. Z Stand (positioned in slot) 3. Latch resting on pivot tab • Use only for cleaning the mower and removing the blades. 2.
Mowing at Correct Intervals Normally, mow every 4 days. However, grass grows at different rates at different times. To maintain the same cutting height, which is a good practice, mow more often in early spring. As the grass growth rate slows in mid-summer, mow less frequently. If you cannot mow for an extended period, first mow at a high cutting height; then mow again 2 days later at a lower height setting. Adjusting the Cutting Speed g001813 Figure 29 1. Z Stand™ 3.
