ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every150hours
Every250hours—Replacetheprimaryairlter
(moreoftenindustyorsandyconditions).
Every250hours—Checkthesafetyairlter.
Every500hours—Replacethesafetyairlter.
Note:Checktheltersmorefrequentlyifthe
operatingconditionsareextremelydustyorsandy.
RemovingtheFilters
1.Disengagetheblade-controlswitch(PTO),move
themotion-controlleverstotheNEUTRAL-LOCK
position,andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpull
theair-cleanercoverofftheair-cleanerbody
(Figure31).

5.Gentlyslidetheprimarylteroutofthe
air-cleanerbody(Figure31).
Note:Avoidknockingthelterintothesideof
thebody.
6.Removethesafetylteronlyifyouintendto
replaceit.
Important:Donotattempttocleanthe
safetylter.Ifthesafetylterisdirty,then
theprimarylterisdamaged.Replaceboth
lters.
7.Inspecttheprimarylterfordamagebylooking
intothelterwhileshiningabrightlightonthe
outsideofthelter.
Note:Holesinthelterappearasbrightspots.
Ifthelterisdamaged,discardit.
ServicingthePrimaryFilter
•Iftheprimarylterisdirty,bent,ordamaged,
replaceit.
•Donotcleantheprimarylter.
ServicingtheSafetyFilter
Replacethesafetylter,nevercleanit.
Important:Donotattempttocleanthesafety
lter.Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimary
lterisdamaged.Replacebothlters.
InstallingtheFilters
Important:Topreventenginedamage,always
operatetheenginewithbothairltersandthe
coverinstalled.
1.Ifinstallingnewlters,checkeachlterfor
shippingdamage.
Note:Donotuseadamagedlter.
2.Ifyouarereplacingthesafetylter,carefully
slideitintothelterbody(Figure31).
3.Carefullyslidetheprimarylteroverthesafety
lter(Figure31).
Note:Ensurethattheprimarylterisfully
seatedbypushingonitsouterrimwhileinstalling
it.
Important:Donotpressonthesoftinside
areaofthelter.
4.Installtheair-cleanercoverwiththeside
indicatedasupfacingupwardandsecurethe
latches(Figure31).
