ServicingtheFuses
Theelectricalsystemisprotectedbyfuses.Itrequires
nomaintenance;however,ifafuseblowscheckthe
component/circuitforamalfunctionorshort.
1.Thefusesarelocatedonrightsidebehindthe
seat.
2.Toreplacethefuses,pulloutonthefuseto
removeit.
3.Installanewfuse.

Adjustallsafetyswitchessothattheplungerextends
4.8mmto6.4mm(3/16inchto1/4inch)fromthe
switchbodywhentheplungeriscompressed(Figure
42).

Jump-StartingtheMachine
1.Checkandcleancorrosionfromthebattery
terminalsbeforejump-starting.
Note:Ensurethattheconnectionsaretight.
CAUTION
Corrosionorlooseconnectionscan
causeunwantedelectricalvoltagespikes
atanytimeduringthejump-starting
procedure.
Donotattempttojump-startthemachine
withlooseorcorrodedbatteryterminals,
ordamagetotheengineorEFImay
occur.
DANGER
Jump-startingaweakbatterythatis
cracked,frozen,hasalowelectrolyte
level,orhasanopen/shortedbattery
cellcancauseanexplosion,resultingin
seriouspersonalinjury.
Donotjump-startaweakbatteryifthese
conditionsexist.
2.Makesurethattheboosterbatteryisagood
andfullychargedlead-acidbatteryat12.6Vor
greater.
Note:Useproperlysizedjumpercableswith
shortlengthstoreducevoltagedropbetween
systems.Makesurethatthecablesarecolor
codedorlabeledforthecorrectpolarity.
CAUTION
Connectingthejumpercablesincorrectly
(wrongpolarity)canimmediatelydamage
theEFIsystem.
Becertainofbatteryterminalpolarity
andjumpercablepolaritywhenhooking
upbatteries.
WARNING
Batteriescontainacidandproduce
explosivegases.
Shieldtheeyesandfacefromthe
batteriesatalltimes.
Donotleanoverthebatteries.
Note:Besurethattheventcapsaretightand
level.Placeadampcloth,ifavailable,overany
ventcapsonbothbatteries.Besurethatthe
vehiclesdonottouchandthatbothelectrical
systemsareoffandatthesameratedsystem
voltage.Theseinstructionsarefornegative
groundsystemsonly.
3.Connectthepositive(+)cabletothepositive(+)
terminalofthedischargedbatterythatiswired
tothestarterorsolenoidasshowninFigure43.
