ReplacingtheFuses
Theelectricalsystemisprotectedbyfuses.Theyarelocated
beneaththehood,nearthefueltank(Figure30).Ifafuse
goesout,checkthecircuitwiringforashort.

Toreplaceafuse,pulluptoremovetheoldfusefromthe
socket.Insertanewfusebypushingitdownintothesocket.
Note:Ensurethatthenewfusehasthesameamperageas
theoldfusethatyouarereplacing.
ServicingtheBattery
Alwayskeepthebatterycleanandfullycharged.Useapaper
toweltocleanthebatteryandbatterybox.Ifthebattery
terminalsarecorroded,cleanthemwithasolutionof4parts
waterand1partbakingsoda.Applyalightcoatingofgrease
tothebatteryterminalstopreventthemfromcorroding.
Batteryvoltageandamperage:12volts,190cold-cranking
amps
RemovingtheBattery
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshortagainst
metalmachinecomponentscausingsparks.Sparks
cancausethebatterygassestoexplode,resulting
inpersonalinjury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,donot
allowthebatteryterminalstotouchanymetal
partsofthemachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetweenthe
batteryterminalsandthemetalpartsofthe
machine.
1.Disengagetheblades(PTO).
2.Settheparkingbrake.
3.Stoptheengineandwaitforallmovingpartstostop.
4.Removetheignitionkey.
5.Liftuptheseattoseethebattery.
6.Lifttherubbercoverupoffthenegative(black)cable.
7.Disconnectthenegative(black)groundcablefromthe
batterypost(Figure31).

WARNING

positive(red)cable.
Alwaysconnectthepositive(red)battery
cablebeforeconnectingthenegative
(black)cable.
8.Lifttherubbercoverupoffthepositive(red)cable.
9.Disconnectthepositive(red)cablefromthebattery
post(Figure31).
10.Removethebatteryholddownrod.
11.Removethebatteryfromthechassis.
InstallingtheBattery
1.Placethebatteryintothechassiswiththebatteryposts
towardtherearofthemachine(Figure31).
2.Securethebatteryinthechassiswiththeholddown
rod.
