ServicingtheCutting
Blades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.T earingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,and
foranywearordamage.Filedownanynicksand
sharpenthebladesasnecessary.Ifabladeis
damagedorworn,replaceitimmediatelywitha
genuineTororeplacementblade.Forconvenient
sharpeningandreplacement,youmaywanttokeep
extrabladesonhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrownintothe
operator'sorbystander'sarea,resultingin
seriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
bladecontrolswitch,andmovethemotioncontrol
leversoutwardtotheparkposition.Stoptheengine
andremovethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Check
thecuttingblades.
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure48).Ifthe
edgesarenotsharporhavenicks,removeand
sharpentheblades;refertoSharpeningthe
Blades.
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea
(Figure48).Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,
oraslotforminginthisarea(items3and4in
Figure48),immediatelyinstallanewblade.

1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighest
height-of-cutposition;alsoconsideredthe
'transport'position.
2.Whilewearingthicklypaddedglovesorother
adequatehandprotectionslowlyrotatebladeto
bemeasuredintoapositionthatallowseffective
measurementofthedistancebetweenthe
cuttingedgeandthelevelsurfacethemachine
ison.
