ServicingtheCuttingBlades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason,because
sharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingorshreddingthe
grassblades.Tearingandshreddingthegrassturnsitbrown
attheedges,whichslowsgrowthandincreasesthechance
ofdisease.
Checkthecuttingbladesdailyforsharpnessandforany
wearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpenthe
bladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replace
itimmediatelywithagenuineTororeplacementblade.For
convenientsharpeningandreplacement,keepextrablades
onhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreakandapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownatyouorbystanders,
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
blade-controlswitch,movethemotion-controlleversoutward
tothePARKposition,shutofftheengine,andremovethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Checkthe
cuttingblades.
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure47).
Note:Iftheedgesarenotsharporhavenicks,remove
andsharpentheblades;refertoSharpeningtheBlades
(page39).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea(Figure
47).
Note:Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,oraslot
forminginthisarea(items3and4inFigure47),
immediatelyinstallanewblade.

Note:Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceforthefollowing
procedure.
1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighestheight-of-cut
position.
2.Whilewearingthicklypaddedgloves,orotheradequate
handprotection,slowlyrotatethebladetobemeasured
intoapositionthatallowsyoutoeffectivelymeasure
thedistancebetweenthecuttingedgeandthelevel
surfacethatthemachineison(Figure48).
