RemovingtheSparkPlug
1.Disengagethebladecontrolswitchandmovethe
controlleverstotheneutrallockedpositionand
applytheparkingbrake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Removetheenginehoodandengineducttoaccess
theenginecomponents.
4.Pullthewiresoffofthesparkplugs(Figure38).
Cleanaroundthesparkplugstopreventdirtfrom
fallingintotheengineandpotentiallycausing
damage.
5.Removethesparkplugsandmetalwasher.

CheckingtheSparkPlug
1.Lookatthecenterofthesparkplug(Figure39).
Ifyouseelightbrownorgrayontheinsulator,the
engineisoperatingproperly.Ablackcoatingonthe
insulatorusuallymeanstheaircleanerisdirty.
Important:Nevercleanthesparkplug.Always
replacethesparkplugwhenithasablack
coating,wornelectrodes,anoilylm,orcracks.
2.Checkthegapbetweenthecenterandsideelectrodes
(Figure39).Bendthesideelectrode(Figure39)if
thegapisnotcorrect.

1.Installthesparkplug(s).Makesurethattheairgap
issetcorrectly.
2.Tightenthesparkplug(s)to16ft-lb(22N-m).
3.Pushthewire(s)ontothesparkplug(s)(Figure38).
