The goal of this manual is to guide you through setting up and operating your Toshiba TV as quickly as possible. This manual applies to models 32HF73 and 36HF73. Before you start reading, check the model number on the back of your TV. Instructions in this manual are based on using the remote control.

Coaxial cable uses “F” connectors. Standard A/V (audio/video) cables usually come in sets of three, and are typically color-coded according to use: yellow for video, red for stereo right audio, and white for stereo left (or mono) audio.

Your TV has ColorStream® (component video) inputs. Connecting your TV to a DVD player with component video inputs (such as a Toshiba DVD player with ColorStream®) can greatly enhance picture quality and realism.

Introduction Connecting your TV Using the auto aspect feature When receiving a 480i signal, the TV will automatically change the image shape by reading aspect information (ID-1 data) from the input signal. If the signal does not include aspect information (ID-1 data), the image shape mode you set (pages 28–29) is selected. To turn on the auto aspect: 1. Introduction The POP (picture-out-picture) feature splits the screen into a double window that allows you to watch two programs at the same time. The POP program can come from a TV broadcast or an external source, such as a VCR. To display a TV broadcast in the POP window: 1. Press SPLIT to display the POP window. Note: • The SPLIT buttons on the remote control operate the TV’s POP features. • You cannot access POP features when viewing DVI input.

Introduction Unlocking programs temporarily If you try to watch a TV program that exceeds the rating limits you set, the TV enters program lock mode. After 4 seconds, the TV starts the auto favorite channel search function (see page 34). You can either unlock the program temporarily or select a non-locked program to watch.

When the game timer is activated, the TV enters VIDEO LOCK mode and locks out the input source for the video game device. To set the game timer: 1. From the LOCKS menu, select GAME TIMER. 2. Press x or • to select the length of time until the video mode is blocked from among 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes.
