Chapter 1 Configuring HarnessEye/web Chapter 1 Configuring HarnessEye/web
1.1 Outline 1.1.1 Outline of Harness Eye Web HEW is software used in managing the operation of Toshiba Intel Architecture servers. HEW is web-based operation management software. If the network address of the Management Proxy is known, the condition of the HEW Agent can be monitored from a web browser such as Internet Explorer on the console. Also, hardware information specific to Toshiba Intel Architecure servers can be monitored for fault detection.
1.1.2 Outline of Individual Functions This section provides an outline of individual functions of HEW. Fault list display function It is the function to display fault information of the Agent machine. The information is stored on the Management Proxy. (3.3.8 Error Log screen) Inventory collection function It is the function to display the inventory of the Agent machine. The following information is displayed.
Fault report function If a fault occurs in the Agent machine, fault information can be reported to the Management Console. There are two ways to send a report to the Management Console: 1. Displaying an Alert Message on the Management Console 2. Sending e-mail to a designated component (Management Console or other) Five fault levels are specified: Information, Warning, Error, Success Audit, and Failure Audit. Events written to the event log on the Agent machine are reported to the Management Proxy.
Trap transmitting to a Compaq Insight Manager function If a fault occurs in server, it is possible to transmit a SNMP trap to a Compaq Insight Manager. A SNMP trap is transmitted when the fault about temperature, FAN and Voltage in server. In order to confirm this function, it is necessary to specify by the Local Configuration Tool.
1.2 Operating Environment 1.2.1 Operating environment The requirements for HEW operation are as follows: [Management Console] CPU Pentium II, 300MHz or faster Memory 64 megabytes or more Display 1024 x 768 or higher resolution (65,000 colors or more) Operating System Windows NT 4.0 (Server or Workstation) Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, or Advanced Server) Windows 98SE Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition) Software Internet Explorer Version 5.5 SP2 or later (Microsoft VM is required.
1.3 Components 1.3.1 Roles of each component (1) Agent If a fault is detected in the Agent machine, the Agent reports it to the Management Proxy. Also, upon receipt of an information acquisition request from the Management Proxy, the Agent returns the requested information. The Agent can monitor a computer if it satisfies the requirements shown in the operating environment section. The HEW Agent must be installed for use in the Agent machine.
Notice When you set up the HEW Agent function, an Agent must meet the following conditions. The Node Name is IP reachable with TCP/IP and it is resolved by name resolution. The Node Name is the only name in the network. When the Node Name is a host name or a DNS name, it is resolved by name resolution with a HOST or a DNS server.
(2) Management Proxy The Management Proxy collects fault reports from the Agent and stores them, and also relays settings from the Management Console to the Agent. Collected fault information can be sent by the e-mail or displayed by the Alert Message on the Management Console machine. At least one Management Proxy machine is required in one system. And a maximum of two Management Proxy machine can be set up in one system.
When two Management Proxies are provided in a system, the servers must be set up to prevent alarm reports sent to Management Console from being duplicated. The primary Management Proxy should be set up to send e-mail and Alert Messages to the Management Console, and the backup Management Proxy should be set up not to send them to the Management Console. (3.4.
(3) Management Console The Management Console receives fault information from the Management Proxy and displays them as Alert Messages to notify the administrator. It also enables the user to use an Internet browser to obtain Agent information or set Agent monitoring information items. Most monitoring operations are performed from this Management Console. The HEW Management Console must be installed for use in the Management Console machine.
1.3.2 Notes on System Configurations Minimum configuration In an environment with only one server, all modules are installed in one server. In this environment, the fault report function does not work if a server fails (crashes, locks up, etc.) Medium-scale configuration In an environment in which several servers are installed, a Management Proxy is installed in at least one server and only the Agent is installed in the other server units.
displayed and a remote console function is not available. If the level is "Low", when you use a remote console function, "Terminal Service ActiveX Control" is downloaded without displaying a security-warning dialog. display a security-warning dialog, please do not set "low" as a level.
