TP-1300 Blue Light, 3 LED
12-Volt Leak Detection Lamp
OPERATION
• Turn OFF the engine before performing any leak detection
inspections.
• Add fluorescent dye to the system. For best results, use
OEM-approved Tracerline
®
Fluoro-Lite
®
and Dye-Lite
®
dyes.
See the dye instructions for full information.
• Run the engine and/or system for 5 to 10 minutes to
circulate the dye. Turn OFF the engine.
• Connect the battery clips to any 12-volt vehicle battery or
regulated 12 VDC power source.
• Turn on the lamp and scan the system while wearing the
TP-9940 glasses supplied. They eliminate reflected blue
light from the lamp, which could mask the fluorescent glow
from leaks. The glow will show best under low light
conditions.
CLEANUP/REINSPECTION
After the leaks are repaired, clean the remaining dye from
the leak sites with GLO-AWAY™. Remaining dye could be
mistaken for a leak. Check all areas again with the lamp to
make sure no dye remains. Then run the engine or system
for another 5 to 10 minutes and reinspect with the lamp to be
sure that all leaks have been repaired and no new leaks
appear.
TO REPLACE THE BULB
Use only the 3-watt 124821 bulb. Using any other bulb
may damage the lamp and will void the warranty.
1. Twist off the bulb guard and gently pull the old bulb
straight out from the socket.
2. Holding the new bulb by the edge of the reflector, press it
into the two-pin socket firmly but gently.
3. Reattach the bulb guard.

TIPS
• After the fluid system dye has circulated, inspect the
system’s dipstick or fluid port with the lamp to see the fluo-
rescent glow. Add a small amount of dye if needed to
increase the glow. Additional dye will not harm the system.
• Use a mirror to check behind and under hard-to-reach
areas to view leaks. Wipe areas with a clean cloth and
check the cloth with the lamp for the dye’s glow.
• Before affixing the underhood label, mark the type of dye
used and the date of service.
