develop. Do not fill the pot more than 2/3 full.
When cooking with foods that expand during
cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do
not fill the unit more than 1/2 full.
Applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, split
peas, noodles, macaroni, spaghetti (or other
pastas), rhubarb, oatmeal (or other cereals)
should NOT be cooked in a pressure cooker,
as they will foam, froth and sputter, causing
the pressure release device, or steam vent,
to clog.
Meat with an outer layer of skin may swell
during pressure-cooking. Do not pierce the
skin after cooking if it appears swollen,
as the meat’s juices may squirt out and
could cause a burn. Pierce the meat before
pressure-cooking.
When the normal operating pressure is
reached during cooking, reduce the heat
setting, so all of the liquid inside the pressure
cooker, which is creating steam, does not
evaporate.
When pressure-cooking food with a thick
texture, slightly shake the pressure cooker
before opening to insure the food does not
spurt out upon opening the cooker.
Do not open the pressure cooker until
all pressure has been released. Refer to
instructions on page 7 for proper pressure
releasing procedures for the pressure cooker.
Do not attempt to adjust or tamper with the
safety system, except for routine cleaning
and maintenance in accordance with the
instructions within this booklet. Do not open
the control panel.
If the pressure cooker’s handles are difficult
to push apart, this indicates the cooker is still
pressurized. DO NOT FORCE IT OPEN. Any
amount of pressure built up in the cooker can
be hazardous.
Use only the appropriate replacement parts.

Operating Instructions
Before using the pressure cooker, read all
instructions within this booklet.
GETTING STARTED
Before using your pressure cooker for the first
time, hand-wash all parts with warm, soapy water
and dry thoroughly. Apply a thin coat of cooking
oil to the sealing ring. Follow this procedure every
time you wash the pressure cooker in order to
facilitate locking the lid in place (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
Fill the pressure cooker 1/2 full with cold water,
and heat the pressure cooker for 30 minutes.
Open the pressure cooker after it is completely
cooled and all pressure has been released. Pour
out the water, wash, rinse and dry. See page 6.
ADDING FOOD AND LIQUID
When cooking with a pressure cooker, it is
important to use a liquid, such as water, soup
stock or wine, which will convert to steam after
reaching a boil. NEVER fill the pressure cooker
more than 2/3 full of liquid and food (Fig. 2). Fill
only 1/2 full when cooking foods that will either
expand in size and/or produce foam as they cook,
such as dried vegetables or corn (Fig. 3).
