TRA7970 Traxxas Aton 2-Axis Gimbal-Operating Instructions

IMPORTANT: Consult local laws and ordinances before installing and operating any type of
photograph-capable or video recording device on the Āton.
WARNING: To prevent radio interference and loss of control, always disable Wi-Fi on your
GoPro® or other action camera* (if so equipped) BEFORE flying the Āton.
Gimbal and Camera Installation
1. Route the gimbal wiring harness through the mounting bracket (A).
2. Plug the harness into the power port on the bottom of the helicopter (B).
3. Attach the mounting bracket to the front landing gear by aligning the tabs. Slide the
bracket toward the rear of the helicopter until the tabs snap into place (C).
4. Press the lock to release the camera frame from the gimbal base (D).
5. Slide the camera* into the frame (E).
6. Reinstall the frame onto the gimbal by inserting the tab into the slot on the gimbal base
(F) and pressing on the frame until the lock snaps into place (G).
Gimbal Operation
1. Place the model on a level surface in the center of your flying area with the Status Bar
facing you (nose out). Select a flying location with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
2. Connect the battery to the model. The model and the gimbal are now powered on. The
helicopter will sound an ascending tone indicating that the flight system is ready.
3. The status LED on the bottom of the gimbal base (H) will light solid red as the gimbal
initializes and sets to its default neutral position.
4. Once the status LED turns solid green, the gimbal is ready for normal operation and flight.
Aiming the camera (changing the pitch angle)
1. Press the SET button on the bottom of the gimbal base (H).
2. The status LED will flash green. Within 3 seconds, aim the camera by manually rotating the
camera up or down to set a new pitch angle.
3. Hold the camera at the chosen pitch angle until the status LED turns solid green. The
gimbal is now ready for normal operation and flight at the new pitch angle.
IMPORTANT: The gimbal is intended to be used in the Āton’s Film Mode. Using the gimbal
in Sport (Fast) Mode or Expert Mode with agressive flight will force the gimbal to operate
beyond its mechanical limits. This will cause the gimbal to malfunction and could result in
damage to the gimbal and the attached camera.
