WirelessPerformanceConsiderations
Thereareanumberoffactorsthatcanimpacttherangeofwirelessdevices.
1. Adjustyourwirelessdevicessothatthesignalistravelinginastraightpath,rather
thanatanangle.Themorematerialthesignalhastopassthroughthemoresignal
youwilllose.
2. Keepthenumberofobstructionstoaminimum.Eachobstructioncanreducethe
rangeofawirelessdevice.Positionthewirelessdevicesinamannerthatwill
minimizetheamountofobstructionsbetweenthem.
3. Buildingmaterialscanhavealargeimpactonyour wirelesssignal.Inanindoor
environment,trytopositionthewirelessdevicessothatthesignalpassesthrough
lessdensematerialsuchasdrywall.Densematerialslikemetal,solidwood,glass
orevenfurnituremayblockordegradethesignal.
4. Antennaorientationcanalsohavealargeimpactonyourwirelesssignal.Usethe
wirelessadapter’ssitesurveytooltodeterminethebestantennaorientationfor
yourwirelessdevices.
5. InterferencefromdevicesthatproduceRF(radiofrequency)noisecanalsoimpact
yoursignal.PositionyourwirelessdevicesawayfromanythingthatgeneratesRF
noise,suchasmicrowaves,radiosandbabymonitors.
6. Anydeviceoperatingonthe2.4GHzfrequencywillcauseinterference.Devicessuch
as2.4GHzcordlessphonesorotherwirelessremotesoperatingonthe2.4GHz
frequencycanpotentiallydropthewirelesssignal.Althoughthephonemaynotbe
inuse,thebasecanstilltransmitwirelesssignal.Movethephone’sbasestationas
farawayaspossiblefromyourwirelessdevices.
Ifyouarestillexperiencinglowornosignalconsiderrepositioningthewirelessdevices
orinstallingadditionalaccesspoints.Theuseofhighergainantennasmayalsoprovide
thenecessarycoveragedependingontheenvironment.
