Screen auto-rotation
Ranger 5 / TSC5 is equipped with orientation sensors that can detect if your device is in portrait or
landscape orientation. The operating system can automatically adjust the display to match your
device orientation, or you can lock the orientation.
To adjust the auto-rotate setting, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the Quick
Settings bar. Tap auto-rotate to to toggle auto-rotate On or Off.
● If auto-rotate is turned on, the auto-rotate icon is visible. Orientate the device to
Portrait or Landscape, then tap to turn off auto-rotate and lock the device in the
selected orientation.
● If auto-rotate is turned off, the auto-rotate icon is not visible; Portrait or Landscape will
be displayed instead. Tap to turn on auto-rotate.
Using the onscreen keypad
You can type on the device using a keypad on the touchscreen. The onscreen keypad is disabled by
default. To turn it on, navigate to: Settings > System > Languages & input > Physical keyboard.
Next to the Show virtual keyboard setting, tap the slider to turn it on. To access the onscreen
keypad, tap in a text field and it will appear. You will still be able to use the physical keyboard while
this setting is on.
Using a USB or Bluetooth® mouse
You can attach a physical keyboard, mouse and other peripherals to your Ranger 5 / TSC5 via USB or
Bluetooth. For more information see, Chapter 5: Using accessories and connecting to other devices.
Using the integrated keyboard
This section covers how to interact with the Ranger 5 / TSC5 device’s built-in keyboard. It describes
the special/non-standard functionality of the keyboard and the associated utilities. The Ranger 5 /
TSC5 controller has a full physical QWERTY keypad. You can configure some keypad behaviors under
Settings > System > Languages & input > Physical keyboard > Built-in Keyboard. See
Configuring built-in keypad settings.

CAUTION - When you first set up the device, make sure you select English US (Eng US) as the keypad language,
independent of the keypad layout (ABCD or QWERTY) and the language you use on the TSC7 controller
The keyboard functions, in most ways, function like a standard PC keyboard with some
concessions/alterations because of the small physical size. In addition, some special features have
been added to support our customers’ specific needs.
